Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Kia USA is offering Leesees $9900 not to return their leased EV at the end. Basically they screwed up on residuals and will get slaughtered at auction. Obviously Kia thinks they are underwater by more than $10K on every leased electric vehicle. Ouch.

    DOT sticker?

Go with the dot sticker. You know your head is safe. Cop can barely tell an ebike from a motorcycle, most won't have the stones to write a ticket without clear evidence that it will stick (eg get a sticker that looks plausible and don't hand draw it).

What did you do in your garage today..?

I have a few tubs of orange goo with grit. I use it when I am really dirty/greasy. I find it works much faster and better than normal soaps.

Service Ontario queues are insane now

Add in end of the month as many people believe their license expires at the end of the month instead of on their birthday.

Service Ontario queues are insane now

@Baggsy was it an agency SO or a government run one? I don't know if there is an easy way to tell. Government locations are probably bilingual and normally staffed by entitled hags that dgaf about you or anybody else. They are making bank and invincible. Agency stores are often dingy with staff...

    Vintage looking helmets

I wasn't sure if they drilled two hole to secure the sticks. Glued surface mount on that small area I don't know if it could stand up to wind. That's a lot of leverage.

    Vintage looking helmets

Cool looking. Cops could ding you for the antennas. I am sure you could find a way to attach drumnsticks that would easily break away in a crash.

What did you do in your garage today..?

Lee Valley has sold surgical scrub brushes for decades. They are designed for that purpose. I'm sure there's a cheaper source now but a dozen will probably last the rest of your life...

    Skilled trades college

I don't know about that school. In general, I am not a fan of pre-apprenticeship programs. They enrich the school but I am not convinced they help most students much. Can your son jump straight into an apprenticeship? Does he know which trade he is interested in? Is he mechanically inclined? In...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

A roof puts you into permits. Toronto should have a cheat sheet for small projects. The last one I built was on 10" sonotubes. I don't like embedded wood. I used simpson post bases to hold 6x6 posts with a box beam on top to tie everything together. There was way too much wood, it was done for...

Do Quebec`s rules for new riders make sense?

It doesn't need to have all of those characteristics to make the list. Those are just a shopping list for bureaucrats to point at when making arbitrary decisions. I haven't bothered to look at the full list of high-risk bikes. I assume, they are targeting RR bikes so low cc or most naked bikes...

When was the last time you cleaned the ductwork? Maybe airflow is low so coil temp is really high?

And licensing. G1 test is in 28 languages. If you can't pass in English or French, you aren't ready to drive in Ontario yet. The road signs are not in 28 languages. Force driving tests to the closest location to your address works to right-size testing centres and ensures you get tested in...

    Vintage looking helmets

White helmet, a few stickers and you can be rocking this awesome piece. Most vintage looking helmets will be 1/2 or 3/4. If you want full face, I guess you could go with something like the simpson bandit, it has been around since the late 70's.

The pipe might be worth something. Almost zero chance that thing can ever pass a safety in Ontario so it really has no purpose in life as a bike.

Brampton bovaird and yellow brick rip

Condolences to the riders family and friends. Hit and run. Rider was 21 yo. https://toronto.citynews.ca/2026/06/27/motorcyclist-killed-in-brampton-hit-and-run/ EDIT: Driver arrested for impaired. 48 yo.

Do Quebec`s rules for new riders make sense?

I like fines based on income as what is crushing for one person is not even pocket change for another. Bad drivers can take public transit. More riders reduces the subsidy per trip required (and potentially even the total subsidy required if transit vehicles are full enough to cover costs).

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

This is a complicated beast. Pressurestat, auto fill, external pump, etc. Pressure gauge is dated 1994 so that is probably close to the machine age. Here is the drawer of small parts/assemblies cleaned up and ready for reassembly. Boiler is interesting. I couldn't find schematic diagrams for...
