Your First Motorcycle Was a ............?

Started with a Rupp mini bike. Then got a Honda CT70. It was missing the left handlebar but that didn't matter. First full size bike was a new Hodaka Wombat around 1973. It was an amazing bike; "Looks of tin, strength of iron."

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

Great to meet up with you today Tom. Time flies when you're having fun! We could spend a few more hours chatting I'm sure. To answer a question you asked, from the position where you took that pic, if you rotate left close to 90 degrees, then you would be looking toward the historic Jackson's...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

Yes. We had most of it cleaned up before most people woke up. That happens a lot.

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

Somebody was out riding a little Kawasaki at 3:00 this morning on Stouffville Rd., in a raging snow storm. After smacking it up he left it on the side of the road for the entire day. That's his mirror on the road behind it. My ride is in the background.

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

Cool railway page. Thanks for the link. The station for the Toronto and York Radial Line is still there, at the corner of Dalton Road and High Street. Too bad the rail line isn't still there. It would be great to be able to hop on a train and go to the city...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

Here is a recent survey, copied with permission. The "Dock" is the formerly federal wharf where i-WERKS' bike was parked. Standing on it looking out at the lake, you can see the Marine Railway before you on a clear calm day. The parking lot was the shipyard; the dry end of the railway, where...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

You are exactly right, Tom. The railway itself was on the property that is now the park, but the whole area was considered "railway lands." There is presently a lot of pressure to develop that land, and a lot of resistance from the people who live here and enjoy that park, beach and harbour...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

It gets confusing for some when you have both at the same location, like in Jackson's Point.

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

Don't confuse railway with Marine Railway. Similar but different. Marine railway is like the one at Big Chute.

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

Lorne Street follows the right of way of the 1877 Grand Trunk Railway. It veers to the right near the lake, where it extended onto a wharf where ice was loaded onto rail cars to ship to Toronto. The present Ramada Inn was the location of the ice houses in the nineteenth century.

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

You are correct. There is an off shoot to the right. It might have been named Bonnie Blvd. at one time. There has been a lot of screwing around there in recent years. Don't get me started! Though I think you have!!

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

Ah Yes! My mistake. The piles of snow make everything look the same. You were at the end of Lorne Street. (y)

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

That's exactly where you were, Tom. The piles of snow in front of your bike in your pic, would be behind the vehicles in the Google pic. Last time I saw you ride through JP, I hopped on my bike and flew up there right behind you, hoping I might catch you admiring the scenery. I guess you had a...
