Alan Ritchson motorcycle incident and fight

I always think of Albert, a co-worker of many years ago, in cases like this. I never got the whole story from the start but a tiff in a bar, a punch from Albert and the guy goes down, hitting his head never to get up again. Albert is convicted of manslaughter with a few years at Maplehurst out...

    How`s your house pricing doing?..

I'd be wary of a new condo at any time. One property manager I knew had to sign a demolition order for a new high rise. The geologist goofed on the soil stability. Where do you live for ten years while they sort that out? It wasn't the Millennium Tower, the leaning tower of San Francisco. I...

My parked motorcycle was knocked over by a truck - next steps?

Watch the fork alignment. Out on a ride, one of the participants hammered the brakes and a misalignment, previously un-noticed or ignored, caused her to crash with a minor concussion. After she recovered she said the crash must have fixed the problem because the bike handled better. I'd prefer...

    How`s your house pricing doing?..

Elevators, underground parking and pools are high maintenance items. Low rise buildings that can get away with hydraulic elevators save over high rise. Land cost in the GTA skews things. Underground parking, particularly multi-level have rebuild issues every few decades. It's a mega industry...

    How`s your house pricing doing?..

Anyone have a crystal ball on the condo market? Existing building ~ $500 K for 1000 SF. 35 years old. Pictures look good. How does the 500 SF pre-build market affect those? A condo is in our future. When?

    How`s your house pricing doing?..

If you do the bathrooms into the next century it could make the rest of the house look too old, necessitating doing the rest of the place.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

My problem is that my present ICE is probably good for another four years before I have to get something new. The trade in value is pathetic so the energy cost savings don't outweigh the potential travel value. I'd have to add ~$35K to the pot to get one of the Equinox EVs to save ~$2K a year in...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

FWIW I was at Home Depot Sherway yesterday and they had 4 X 4 cedar posts in the cull lot. 70% off so about the same price as PT. They were still strapped in bundles and looked straight so I don't know why the cull price. You had to buy the bundle of 30.

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Decades ago I bought a 20' length of 1/4" X 4" aluminum flat bar and cut it into a few convenient pieces. With clamps, it lets me cut full sheets into sizes manageable on the table saw.

    Document Shredding Cost

How secure does the shredding need to be? I used someone near 404 Steeles and they ribbon shredded which isn't that secure. A bit of clear tape and a page is readable in a few minutes. DND on the other hand has shredders at every desk feeding mini confetti by vacuum line to a dumpster fill...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

I try to compare that with my late mother's habit of gifting her senior friends copies of her latest cassette of Blue Spanish Eyes, transferred to a 99¢ Walmart blank. Seniors refuse to see that they don't own the rights to copy. Ask them how they would feel about living in a commune where they...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

My ICE burns 8 liters per 100 KM. 8 X $1.75 / 100 = $0.14 / Km I gather EVs typically get 4 Km per kilowatt of charge so at $0.15 / KWH propulsion is $0.15 / KWH / 4 = ~ $0.0375 / Km, about one quarter the cost of ICE. There are tons of variables but for BS propulsion numbers at 20,000 Kms a...

    E bikes rampaging Toronto streets

I bought my Goldwing from a guy in suburban Detroit, big lots nice lawns. One of his neighbors is a neat freak and scolded him because of lawn clippings on the sidewalk. He hadn't had a chance to get the blower out yet. A week or so later Mr neat Nazi has a snootful and is riding his mower...

    Reverse mortgage...redux

The lament of the elderly: "If I knew what was going to happen I'd know how to plan" You're in pretty good shape compared to many. But what if? I know of five families with children having development issues. What will happen to the kids? Non verbal autism in two cases and brain limitations in...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

It wouldn't surprise me if a ten year old ICE had an accumulated 8-10 thousand in tune ups, oil changes, filters, belt changes etc. The EV propulsion cost savings may have paid for the original cost premium, depending on driving. How will the EV dealers make up for the loss of ICE service...
