Why don't car enthusiasts complain about 'nannies?' Or do they!?

Many did complain when some of the early nanny devices came out. Yes due to change is bad...but also some of the nannies left something to be desired early on. I think most of them are at the point tech wise there is not much to complain about unless one is Automotive-Amish and refuses to drive...

    407 tolls, a big issue?

It should not be 70 years worth of tolls even though that is the time left on the lease. What the actual multiplier is (for example times revenue method) IDK but maybe between 4 to 10 years of revenue for most businesses, likely more in this case (see below). There are of course other valuation...

    407 tolls, a big issue?

Even at half price most people will still not be able to use it cost wise. Sure more will but I doubt it will be double to make up for the shortfall of the decreased tolls. *** CPP Investments owns 50.01% of the company. The province could start by buying this portion out at market value. ***...

Law Enforcement - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.....

Media release codewords for shootings etc... -Victim (includes target in this context) is known to the police. Basically they are saying a criminal on criminal crime. -Targeted... is more vague. Targeted could mean criminal on criminal but could also be domestic, robbery, etc. Really to me...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

I am not an interior designer but sometimes I play one on the Internet... As for the material it will have most (near all) of the advantages and disadvantages of porcelain tile. How it feels underfoot (hardness, coldness), durability, installation, etc. It is/was trendy and due to that you run...

The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

I am looking for a GTA watchmaker to repair a couple of items (70s Rolex, 80s Speedmaster). Who are you guys using/trust? Sadly, my (and many local collectors) go-to guy passed away in December (Shane Ede). Just found out today, he was a great watchmaker and a great guy.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Then you will likely just get their "best" cash price... specially if it is a high demand vehicle.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Yes, it can also happen with new cars... The end/final possible finance price and cash price can be different, cash is often higher. They get a kickback on the finance so they can take less on the vehicle. It can be hard to accept for the cash is king crowd... but, but, but I have cash???

    Stealerships Stories... Got one?

Yes electronic rust protect for a vehicle is a total scam. The device requires the circuit to be completed which really only happens when the car is more or less submerged. The concept works on ships and even buried pipelines as they are for all practical purposes submerged in a conductive...

    Stealerships Stories... Got one?

Assuming buying when selling at the dealer. I think the idea is if the private sale is 13% higher than the dealer will pay that is break even money wise (HST savings on the new car). Then figure out how much your time and hassle is worth to get how much more than that you need to get private sale.

    Stealerships Stories... Got one?

Usually one learns the lesson the first time they shove beans up their nose, to not do it again :) In other words, burned once don't go back. Not the same dealer or brand but I have never had a problem telling a dealer to just do the oil change, nothing else. They may say xxx is due, just do...

    Inflation

We have a rental water heater, not happy about it. I don't call them for service if I can at all avoid it. I basically have to stand between them and my boiler the entire time to keep them in their lane. Otherwise they start poking around and are just looking for any minor reason to red tag and...

    Appliances brands?

We avoid Maytag and all sub brands as we had absolutely horrible customer service from them. That BTW is hard to do (avoid sub brands). We have GE for washer and dryer, old school (white top load etc.) simple base models. They have not been great, I had to jerryrig the pushbuttons (smooth panel...

    Auto shop feedback

For our first Saab way back when the winters were on aftermarket rims (bought as a package from the dealer) and they had plastic hub centring rings. Early on they stayed attached to the rims but after a few years you had to be careful not to lose them when swapping wheels. I can see this being...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

I have never used a wheatstone bridge in that context. For this fault it came down to regular troubleshooting, just time consuming and basic EE troubleshooting. Volt meter to check voltages. Swap to another breaker to see if the fault follows the line/circuit or breaker. Temporarily floating...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Here is one for a win IMO. Our boiler will burn up a thermocouple once per year or two on the better ones and every six months for a cheap one (better ones in this context are $11). I keep a spare but in some recent organizational fails I had no idea where it was. I was painting a radiator...
