Law Enforcement - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.....

IMO a nation's wealth is an educated population. When wars were won by chucking spears and throwing rocks a bunch of illiterate goons did the job. Exporting goods and services isn't much different. You need state of the art goods. Educating the population is mandatory for a country to...

Law Enforcement - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.....

I was working on the garage entrance of the American embassy in Ottawa and they were bomb checking every car when it went in, as usual. The driver of one, an American, says how lucky Canadians were. I asked why and he replied "I could get picked off sitting here." Paranoid or he thinks he's...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

The long term goal is long term profit for the manufacturers. That means long term costs for the owners through lease payments, subscriptions and service. The latter two bother me because I am largely a control freak and don't like other people's hands in my pocket. EV service should be low as...

    COVID and the housing market

The Queensway would be a straight track to downtown. They could call it the South Crosstown. Up and running for our second centennial in 2067. Maybe faster if they built an elevated road above the QEW to link with the existing crumbling elevated one further east. Cynically yours,

Reading the reviews, at bargain basement prices it doesn't come with a charger. I just threw out a box of them. :(

    COVID and the housing market

The last thing one would expect is a new start but something seems to be brewing on the Queensway east of Islington. The Pie Commission (Good meat pies) got booted again but is up and running a bit south. Is the area a hot condo location? Is it a unique set of buildings? Does the builder...

    Cheap smart phone

Costco has one coming up Moto G Play unlocked. $199.99 - $20= $179.99 The Mrs. has the equivalent of a flip phone and so rarely uses it, it's a pocket weight. I could get her on a full plan for a few dollars more than what her "pay by the call" costs. Neither of us are app junkies but don't...

The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

I knew a guy that got a mid morning call from the police saying they had arrested his wife for DUI. She was on her way to the liquor store. That is reality for some families.

The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

In our local school zone, soccer moms park in the bus spots, the overflow double parks in the active lane and a third wave plugs the street. All so their precious cargoes don't have to walk too far. If the kids were given demerit points for front door pickup it might help.

The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

Four truckers have been charged after a day with adverse winter weather conditions saw police respond to multiple crashes involving commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) on Highway 11. The charges are related to two notable crashes yesterday (Dec. 4) in the Driftwood area and near Hearst. Around 9:30...

    COVID and the housing market

A buddy does it. Because of the shared spaces it is a rooming house and LTB has little to no say in the matter. It depends on access to facilities. With the right access the roomer is considered and occupant, not a tenent. Rent out three bedrooms instead of a three bedroom apartment for about...

    Where to get a puppy?

    Groundhog Day 2026!

Around here a groundhog would need a ladder to get his head above the snow, so what's the call? During peak sow a rabbit cut across the back yard but all I could see was its head popping through the snow very foot or so, like a porpoise. FWIW I tried snowshoeing for the first time yesterday...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

I went with tar paper, 2 X 4s, fiberglass, vapour barrier and drywall but space wasn't critical. Similarly in the garage, but 2 X 2 and plywood for the bottom 24" and diagonal reject cedar paneling above. Man cave wainscoting.

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

How long is the banner supposed to last and how big is it? What is the risk factor if the banner falls off or flies away? There are all kinds of tarpaulin clips and clamps on Amazon etc and dozens of other ideas on YouTube. Typically they involve using a small object, maybe a golf-ball, and...
