    New boats $$$$$$$$$$

My info may be outdated but decades ago a fiberglass hull and deck only represented 25% of the cost of a boat. Few, if any builders, make their own fittings or engines etc. OEMs get good pricing so one-off builders get hammered. DIY types buy donor boats to take the edge off the markups. I...

    New boats $$$$$$$$$$

For browsing: https://www.albernipowermarine.com/boat-engines-outboard-motors-for-sale In the mid 1970s we bought a 4.5 HP kicker for a 17 foot sailboat for $400. A 9.9 was $1000. Now they're three times that. The offshore crowd seems to have been directed to outboards at over $100,000 each...

Will an enquiry clarify anything or will it be redacted to drivel like the N.S. shooting?

    Where to get a puppy?

Most dogs belong on a leash but there is something beautiful about seeing a dog on a pretend leash. We once had a collie / shepherd mix and in the city she was always tethered but in the bush the leash came off and it was nice to see her scout around, never wandering more than fifty feet away...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

FWIW in Canada, CDIC protects our bank accounts to $100,000 CDN. In the USA their equivalent protects to $250,000 USD. ($340,000 CDN) and they brag about our system having fewer flaws.

Anyone riding on Rice Lake or know the schedule?

Hey, lets all of us park together. There's strength in numbers. Concentrate the forces. Then stand near our sinking rides and go down with the ships. I'm guessing the water isn't that deep or we'd just be seeing holes in the ice.

    BC shooting

From my earlier post: P.S. Sometimes a distressed person suddenly becomes happy and at peace. In some cases they have planned their demise and are happy because they know their torment will soon be over. Maybe they went into mental hiding, playing the "I'm OK" game until they decided to...

    BC shooting

and I repeat again. 80% of gun deaths in Canada are suicides. I'm guessing the other 20% are 50/50 hate or drug related. Ban ALL guns and the 80% jump off bridges, in front of trains, OD etc. As a kid I came close to being shot due to a careless storage issue. He missed. The closest gunshot...

I get suspicious when a number of reports say exactly the same thing.

    Canada Post - Huge losses

Decades ago the fax machine appeared and I bought one. It arrived late one afternoon and I had barely plugged it in when a client called advising me he needed a report on his desk the next morning. That meant cancelling a profitable call to drive to Oakville the next day. WAIT, do you have a...

Law Enforcement - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.....

I watch some YouTube police chases with both body and dash cameras being used. When the chase ends in a shooting all the cops are reminding each other to not say anything, write down anything, text anything or post anything on social media. Crickets and whistling.

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Century old churches were never heated. The attendees kept their winter coats on and everything was fine. Then they added heat and the rise in temperature lowered the relative humidity. Wooden objects warped and split. The snow melted off the roof and caused eaves and downspout issues. Leaky...

Obama reason vs Trump crap show. https://www.cigaraficionado.com/article/the-new-rules-on-cuban-cigars-19175 Longish read but Obama was working on a Nobel peace prize and normalization while Trump sharts.

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

My task this week is installing a new sink in the main bath vanity. It's part of the overall renovation, hopefully this summer. It may be a DIY if the contractors don't stop the BS. One talked very nicely but the final quote was vague as to final costs and he ignored most of what we said we...

    Cuba...

I appreciate all the varied comments. Castro nationalized all the American holdings when he went communist. IIRC Coca Cola owned the sugar industry and the hotels were owned by American chains. The US hit them with embargoes with the exception of cigars, a necessity of life for the USA rich...

    Where to get a puppy?

I had my leukemia check up Monday but it's chronic not acute. Readings were better than last year. A lot of people have it and don't even know. They die with it, not of it.

    Stocks

$36,000 interest on $150,000 in a year is 24%, about 10 X a GIC. She's out $124,000 at the moment and the facilitator is out the future share of the take so technically nothing. The end user was probably paying 30%, not a good sign. The back story would be interesting. LOC interest @ 5% =...
