Recent movies you saw - recommend or no

I knew going into the movie that some characters would be composites or completely fictional. Furthermore, that time lines and events would probably be altered. All in the name of Hollywood. Mostly, to make the movie as exciting and entertaining as possible. But also to fit the limited time...

You recommended Lone Survivor as “military suspense” and I agree. As pure entertainment it’s a very good movie, even great in spots. The fact that it drew you in to the point that you are now reading the book proves the power of the story. However, Like Affleck did with Argo, Berg did to Lone...

Recent movies you saw - recommend or no

As I've stated before; Enjoy the movie for what it is, Hollywood entertainment. Read Luttrell's book for what it is, one mans biased account of his ordeal. After you've done both then research the events for yourself. There are several web sites plus printed material that will have you going hmmm???

Recent movies you saw - recommend or no

Re: Lone Survivor I agree. I went into this movie expecting the usual, "Poetic Licence" that Hollywood is known to take with "based on actual events" type movies. But after seeing it, then the documentaries, excerpts of the book and websites against it I'm left with an overwhelming sense that...

Are you old enough to remember these motorcycle shops in To?

Speaking of shot live dealerships anyone remember HOJ Cycles? Sold Kawasakis and was part of the car dealership. I can beat that story. Two friends and myself walked in just as they unlocked the doors on a Saturday morning in 1995. My one friend and myself wanted to order a pair Ducati 916's...

Are you old enough to remember these motorcycle shops in To?

Ric, thanks for the Psyco Canada memories. I have that issue, (and many more) packed away somewhere. Yep, lots of good shops now long gone. Abs was an institution but hard to find as the shop moved 5 or 6 times during it's lifetime. I was surprised though that I didn't see an ad for the other...

THIS /\ is exactly my point. And oh, boohoo, they had to take a few days off without pay. Every hourly rated person gets paid for the hours they work, NOT for those they DON'T! (the only exception being stat holidays.) Lets not forget that class room size has been coming down, teachers...

    Riding in Italy!

We were fortunate to spend 10 days riding and sight seeing as the guests of Ducati. We saw Bologna, Modena, Florence and Tuscany. It all culminated with the MotoGP at Mugello. In 2005, most everywhere we rode shut down in the afternoons. Museums, parks and the like didn't. Speaking of museums...

It was never the company's intention to be linked solely to Northern. Other electronic firms we did business for downsized or closed up as well. Also, the recession actually did play a part in Northern's downfall. When things first started going south the top management didn't want to cut back...

    Riding in Italy!

Europe is a motorcycle society and Italy its spiritual capital. It can be very intimidating at first but the more you ride the easier it’ll get. You can split lanes and car drivers actually pull over to allow you to pass. Some highways have very high speed limits or none all but they do enforce...

    Kahuna closing

Re: Kahuna closing? Who or what is IIRC? Back in February of this year at the manufactures show Ride Cycle did not have a presence on the MV Agusta stand. I thought it was due to their staff being stretched between the other brands they carried. However, Sturgis Cycle was there as the newest...

Rob, I understood what you said. I just don’t agree with it. When did the recession end? In my world it didn’t. Every time we thought recovery was on the horizon KABOOM! A scud missile would wipe it out of sight. The company I’ve dedicated over 30 years to was set up to support the electronics...

Say wha....??? Ontario in the 1990s was in the worst economic recession since the Great Depression! I don't know what colour the sky is in your world but in mine many companies that weathered the 80's went under in the 90's. Others, like the one I work for, (much like the NDP) have never...

That's because there are ways around a "wage freeze" and they all know it. When us regular folk have our wages frozen it means just that, no increase in pay, period! However, that's not the way it works in the public sector. For the uninitiated let me explain. Every position has a designation...

    Provincial politics

Short answer; “a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.” (Paul Simon, “The Boxer”) Long answer, paraphrased excerpts from an article in Forbes. A common analytical error is the “post hoc ergo propter hoc” fallacy. (Meaning, "after this, therefore because of this.”) For...

It's my understanding that due to her age and the fact that the Hudak's first child has medical issues the pregnancy was considered, "high risk". Therefore, it was a decision made by the Hudak's doctor that the baby be delivered at Sunnybrook. No conspiracy, no wasting of tax dollars, no moving...

Really? I mean REALLY, you'd pick Wynne over Hudak? Here, see if you can get your head around this. Forget EHealth, Ornge Air, MaRS or any of the other scandals. Lets just look at the billion dollars that Wynne admits was wasted taxpayers money. That equals $73,855 for each and every one of the...

Law Enforcement - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.....

Re: OPP wants to be in politics now Being the victim of a home invasion that resulted in over $26,000 in damages and lost property I can speak with some authority on the matter. Of all the criminal charges that can be laid against a person only seven carry the Canadian maximum penalty, that of...
