    COVID and the housing market

My wife lived for a few months at James and Barton. Prosties in socks and crocs, drunks unconscious on the lawn, etc. Good times.

    Oil Spec for 2025 RAV4

To be fair, they are mandated to meet fuel efficiency standards and any failure after warranty ends makes them money. You hope they aim for a reasonable service life but I have no idea where the battle between engineering and marketing has ended.

I have one of those. Interesting idea poorly executed. Mine has been dead for a long time.

    Oil Spec for 2025 RAV4

I asked a Toyota master tech with decades of experience. I'm a little surprised about the evap bit but I trust him. "I know you can use 0W-16 & I’d do intervals 8000K at the most. I’m still a big believer in the 6 months or 6000k’s . The thicker the oil is the less fuel economy will be, using...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

I have a 6kw electric heater in my garage. I normally only turn it on when I'm in there. During this cold snap, I have left it on but turned down to keep the garage above freezing. Hydro bill is not friendly but not everything in the garage was prepped to be frozen (things like sprayers may not...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Start with door and seals. Floor can't make it ludicrously cold. It should stay above zero if door and seals are good.

    Happy Birthday Eglinton LRT

The latest round of dog *&^*&^*ing. Signal priority for Eglinton LRT won't be functional until at least May. If only they had decades of notice to get it organized and ready to be put online quickly. /s...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

If you are sprucing it up and intending to sell before redoing it again, I would put a ceiling in. Makes it look much much better. Use drop ceiling if you want to maintain access. Similar thought process for block. Insulation looks ugly, throw the board up and it looks polished. Lights make a...

We Know you Ride, But do you Shoot?

They money laundering part of it is working well for them. $500M to their buddies for administration. After it fails, they then raise fear about all of the "criminals" in Canada with assault-style firearms that refuse to give up their weapons of war. Their core loves that. My guess is the next...

    Stocks

And that is a very important point. A 50% loss requires a 100% gain to get back to your starting point. Limiting downside makes a huge difference in portfolio value over time.

    Stocks

17% is ok but not great. S&P500 was 25% in 2024 and 18% in 2025. It's important to know why you are under those benchmarks. I suspect they may have you in some fixed income which provides stability but lowers overall return over those years. Depending on your timelines and risk tolerance, is the...

My brother was offered a job at Edward Jones. They would give him a quick course, the office and receptionist and sell sell sell. He knows nothing about investing (like actually zero). I'm sure they have some that know but wtaf. Make sure your person has some useful certifications, have a look...

    Did you exercise today?

A neighbour that works for Honda has the same issue. He is fed up with his old pos that wont die. He can get a great deal on a Honda so he's going to proactively upgrade at the end of the season.

Has the city lost it's mind...

City of Toronto has their four (and maybe now five) snow melters running full time. At 40-60M BTU each, that's 1600L/hr of diesel times four or five. Take that carbon footprint. Once the snow is melted, they dump the water in the sewer. It seems like it would be cheaper and more environmentally...

    Chains?? and sprockets

I have no comment on the quality of the chains. Tensile strength and stretching are almost unrelated in a motorcycle chain. Stretch in motorcycle chains is worn bushings allowing pins to move move further apart and chains to "stretch". The plates themselves are not getting longer. Higher tensile...
