Guide told me the real issue with tarantula is the spikes. They get agitated and will shoot the spikes on their back, they carry some sorta poison that will start to dissolve your skin iirc. The bite is the ‘good’ part. You are correct, the spikey caterpillars are extremely dangerous.

Not everything I posted, but enough that a trip to the hospital or worse is only 1 bad luck situation of rubbing against the wrong leaf.

Quito seems fine from what the locals tell me. As always a few spots tourist need to stay out of. The coast is a different story. People get shot for witnessing the wrong situation to this day.
