Share your fondest memory of motorcycling

"You meet the nicest people on a Honda." :D Like you I have a million of them. The attached picture is of my then girlfriend now wife of 30 years riding home from PEI when I first met her parents. They offered to pay her airfare back to Toronto every day she was there, but she held out. She...

Is It Time to Leave the Sport? Honestly… I’m Starting to Wonder.

Well said, and so VERY true. As TK4 and Gaoler note, the path to enjoyment or fulfillment with any hobby is NOT charted through the door of a dealership or store. It's entirely possible to enjoy potentially expensive pastimes "on the cheap", or somewhere on the scale that works for you.

Is It Time to Leave the Sport? Honestly… I’m Starting to Wonder.

While I've no intention to leave the sport activity ;), articles like the following cause me some reflection on any recent close(ish) calls. https://www.advrider.com/thankful-in-tough-times/

    I think it's more pick 2 of 3. One just isn't enough.

Pro 6 Cycle closing the storefront

Will Harley tolerate sharing space with Indian? I recall that Mackie's HD at one time picked up Vespa scooters but quickly had to drop them after HD has a hissy fit because - exclusivity. You wouldn't want that potential harley purchaser comparing the performance of his $30K porker-glide with...

Is It Time to Leave the Sport? Honestly… I’m Starting to Wonder.

I went to a 2 day thing at the old airbase, Base31 in Picton this past summer. I can't recall what it was called but in had some vendors, food trucks, live bands, stunt shows and test rides from BMW, Ducati and Husqvarna (I think) plus some e-assist bicycle company. Lots of vintage bikes from...

Is It Time to Leave the Sport? Honestly… I’m Starting to Wonder.

Trackday, I'm afraid you have a case of Oldguyitis, and I think it's acute. Unfortunately the disease is incurable, but we can treat the symptoms. Like you, I find the price of new motorcycles to be so high as to be almost offensive. The proliferation of (for me) unnecessary and very much...

What did you do in your garage today..?

When I built my shop the contractor suggested corrugated, white PVC panels for the walls and ceiling like they use in milking barns because it's moisture resistance. Both he and the building inspector were surprised that it didn't meet fire code standards here, even though it does elsewhere...

    E bikes rampaging Toronto streets

On one hand it amazes me that with the bloated bureaucracies at the federal and provincial levels, no Ministry of Transport has stepped in to enforce existing regulations or bans with these products. You'd think at least one of the 13 Ministers of Transport in this country would look at it and...

    Motorcycle adventure riding books

I found her episodes on building the Yamaha 600 interesting and entertaining, and her travels through Afghanistan were also very interesting. She deserves a TON of credit, both for the length of her travels and the places she goes. She's more brave than most, and probably smarter too. I would...

Thinking of trading my V-Strom 650XT for the new Himalayan 450 – need your thoughts!

A lot of people seem to be romanticizing what the Himalayan is. They see simple, traditional, straight forward, and (modern buzzword incoming...) "authentic". On the other hand you see potential suspect build quality, underpowered, thus over-priced. I tend to agree with you. If the goal of...

    Motorcycle adventure riding books

It's not a MC Adventure book, but I really enjoyed Travels with Charley: In Search of America, by John Steinbeck. He travels in a pickup with a camper on it with his dog, Charly. The countryside he travels is largely gone, but it's a really enjoyable read. If you can find Max Burns Cycle Canada...

Thinking of trading my V-Strom 650XT for the new Himalayan 450 – need your thoughts!

When people tell me how dumb the Yanks are I tell them that I believe on a per capita basis "we" are just as dumb. Then something happens to prove my point...

Not my idea of fun either, but a plug isn't fixing a flat caused by a dented rim.

Thinking of trading my V-Strom 650XT for the new Himalayan 450 – need your thoughts!

I've dented a rim on a back road pothole here in Ontario. Nearly every year we hear stories of people complaining about damaged wheels on their cars from bad road surface in Toronto. A pair of tire levers and a patch kit probably weight about the same as a 500ml bottle of water. If you're...

    November 11th

At the war plane museum in Trenton they have a restored Halifax bomber that was recovered from a lake in Norway. The entire crew perished in the crash. If I recall correctly, the oldest member of the crew was the captain. He was 22 years old.
