    Cycle Mafia scores a win!

How many years has the province been fiddling around with the construction on the QEW in Mississauga? Want to reduce congestion, get their own projects done... it is jammed everyday, even going against traffic. Sadly, what is being spent on the bike lanes, fighting the bike lanes, removing the...

Couldn't get a boost to save my life

I have one of those NOCO booster packs and I leave it in the car. I have bailed out many, many people with it. It is much cleaner than using jumper cables (but I also carry them), I have only had one case where it couldn't get the job done (a friend left his interior light on for a month when...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Another alternative is foam sheets, sold in 4X8. R5 per inch is common and it can be cut and layered between the joists with a full sheet below the joists for a full thermal break. Many are also foil backed to provide a reflective benefit. One thing with spray foam is it is slightly higher per...

    Did you exercise today?

This could also go in the cycling thread, but in the context of exercise. Anyone interested in some casual group bicycle rides on the recreational trails in Etobicoke and/or East Mississauga? I have been too busy lately to get a lot of cycling time in and I need to get back into it. Not looking...

    Anyone here a cyclist?

You can poke me as well, I am in Etobicoke... happy to help if DIY fails. Sometimes when derailleur adjustment just does not seem to work it is a bent hanger...

Does Toronto actually have a plan?

I can't find the link now... but it says you can submit it via 311.

Does Toronto actually have a plan?

Except the meters work the remote reading doesn't. So that will just end up as a huge bill once the meter is read! In general, this is my concern for many. This goes on and on, and then years from now people are getting a four maybe even five figure bill once the meter is read because they had...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Bleach is mostly water, one common "logic" presented is the chlorine kills the surface mold but the water soaks in and eventually feeds the sub surface mold once the chlorine has gassed off. The other logic, of course, is it is very hard on indoor air quality for the applicator or others living...

    Anyone here a cyclist?

For e-bicycles the UK and much or Europe got it right IMO vs what they did in Ontario. In the UK etc. it is pedal assist only (no throttle) and a max speed (for the assist) of 25 kph.

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

These Billy bookcases have been in kicking around not installed in the house for ~16 years as I didn't get my act together when we moved... (well to be fair the room they were going in was well down the reno list an is now almost done, so they have a proper home now). Long since discontinued...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

We bought a used ornamental iron fence on Kijiji for $600 (actually made out of galvanized steel but made to look like wrought iron...). It came with a couple of gates and at least 55' of fence plus all the hardware and posts. It was almost 6' tall, I modified it to 41" and used in around our...

Has the city lost it's mind...

Lots of scrap yards will take the don't ask, don't tell approach. Back in the 90s my uncle worked for a copper tubing manufacturer. They were buying scrap and noticed that it was their copper... long story short inside job, working with a truck driver and a scrapper. Frequent extra roll on the...

    Inverters !

I have run "propane" refrigerant in older cars after repairs, the DIY stuff they sell at CT, PA, etc. marketed as R12a (not R12) et.al is basically propane. IME it works much better at cooling than the "proper stuff". Just make sure to label the port to not contaminate some techs AC recovery...

Country Living (septic, well water, etc.) ... who's done it?

As others noted check cell and Internet availability. BTW Starlink is sold out in many rural places in Canada so don't take it for granted either.

Law Enforcement - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.....

Many jails are operating at or over capacity, there is a storage problem that needs to be solved and is feeding into this. It is easy to complain about soft judges, bail reform, blah, blah, but at the same time they need to work with the above.... Doug can fix the above with money.

Not sure for the case above but the stump can be in a place where they can't get their machinery into.

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

For a large stump that was cut flat close to the ground...I always wondered if cutting multiple groves in it with a circular saw and then breaking off the chunks between the groves...rinse and repeat would work.

    COVID and the housing market

I also imagine that if you applied to make it a residential building even with zero external changes it will be a hard NO.

    COVID and the housing market

The core issue is the building may be (or is) in a floodplain and---according to the article---the local conservation authority is very slow to respond due to internal issues. The conservation authority likely controls the floodplain there--not the city. It is not uncommon to have existing...
