Shopping list for 2014 track season

Eel, you made me laugh. Skin effect is due to voltage, not AC frequency. Solid core is cheaper, so that's the choice for houses. Stranded is used for any industrial or movable wiring because of the flexibility. As you said, welding cable and booster cables are stranded, but because of the need...

Shopping list for 2014 track season

If you use an extension cord, get the type labeled "for block heaters". They are usually 12 gauge, and a larger number of conductors (finer strands), so they will have less voltage drop at higher currents. Electrical theory says no voltage drop at 0 current, but as the current increases so does...

    Seat Foam Pads

Wow, that multicolour stuff is really wild. I have some of the black diamond waffle stuff and it's really easy to cut and form. Nice product, and typical of Apex to offer the good stuff.

What exactly is required as far as mufflers go?

If you went to a dealer for a safety, they probably would say that the muffler must be replaced. But there are other garages that can be less critical. Talk to the people you plan to use ahead of time so that there are no surprises.

Why I don't think fuel stabilizer on an EFI bike is necessary

Ethanol is one of the worst things in fuel for storage. That's why manufacturers are recommending that blue Startron stuff now instead of StaBil. Or just use Shell 91 before storing.

Caught a road rager on my cell phone

Something I learned in grade school that is a very good life lesson. Fit in or you will get picked on. The guy that's in the left lane and leaves enough space for someone to move to the center lane, pass him and get in front of him, well he is not fitting in and WILL get picked on, right or...

    Switching bikes over the winter

Anything is possible. You may find that they prorate the winter months so it will actually be cheaper than you thought. You could also inquire about reducing coverages over the winter to save some funds, but that of course depends on what coverages you have.

    Prolly is not a word!

I agree, prolly is annoying. But it seems that alot has been accepted as a word, which to me is even worse. Prolly.

Question about tire pressure sensors and winter tires.

Check with your dealer, the tire guys are often behind the times, ie saying you need sensors for Audi and Mazda when they changed to using the ABS sensors a few years ago. One potentially bad thing though, a friend has an Acura TL and if it goes without sensors the traction control will not...

GS Owners eat your heart out

MacDoc that area was called the clay pits - remember how the bikes would run counterclockwise on the easterly course and then some fool in a dune buggy would run it clockwise? Ah, the good old days.

    Clutchless downshifting

I always use the clutch to downshift at the track. The thought of a false neutral at the wrong time makes me want to make sure the lower gear engages. On the street not so much.

    Cam chain noise?

I doubt that it's cam chain noise if you hear it under load. Usually cam chains are at their loosest as the revs slowly drop off without load. But it's not preignition? How does the spark plug look?

    Track protection: anybody using Astar....

Same vest as triggerhappy, although the spine protector comes down lower at the back. May be just a function of size. Really like the vest, does not take up much room and a bit flexible too. I also have to offer the classic "I forget that I have it on" because it is so comfortable.

    Beware of Endras BMW

Elton, are you back from your ride yet? I'm a BMW rider. Don't drive BMW cars or Minis, so I don't care if Endras can do great things in that area. Or talk nice to me about new car models. I want them to improve their Motorrad service, and yes this includes the customer relations area, as well...

    Beware of Endras BMW

I could care less if Javin has better interpersonal skills than me. He is part of the car system. We are talking about the motorcycle system at Endras. This is a motorcycle forum. Let's keep the comments relative.
