I usually do one of two things: 1) Use a generic backpack and strap it to the bike. 2) Use a messenger bag: easier to put on/take off, and carries the weight lower and more comfortably. Mostly I use it when riding bicycles.

Btw my av is me riding through slush last winter at -10. It's fun if there is no traffic, but I wouldn't commute in those conditions.

If the convenience/utility/safety of a car is worth less than 2K for you then for sure sell it. A small light dual sport is easiest to manage in the slush and easiest/cheapest to manage when it gets dropped. Just remember that there is a MUCH higher chance in winter of a car sliding/not...

I've seen some frame mounted electric motors that let you use the bike's gears. Then you can offroad the sucker without worrying about destroying the hub motor. And I guess on downhills you could probably go faster than a 125! (if you have the brakes and the balls)

That mileage is better than my jetta!
