I'd take someone with me that knows bikes. You know the seller, so another opinion would help everyone get to a realistic number. How old are the tires? Does it need a chain and sprockets? Brake pads? When was the brake fluid last changed? I see these problems all the time on used bikes...

Softer compound/race tires will do this - some even come with stickers stating that the tire should not be mounted below 5 degrees C. So if that tire was flexed cold it could fracture like that. Seen it a few times.

Don't forget, if you lower the front you will also lose ground clearance. Lots of things to consider.

Rock salt might be sold out everywhere but a lot of places (Lowes, Home Depot) have water softener salt. Same stuff minus the rocks and dirt. Of course they will deny it and say it will ruin your driveway, but really - 99.7% pure salt, better than rock salt really. Definitely better than nothing.

You're right, they are held on with the axle. Why not call Z1, maybe they have a swingarm kicking around that they could cut a piece off of. Or just drill and tap a piece of aluminum and weld it on.
