Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

Not too bad a day for a ride yesterday. Quite windy and around 10C. Got out for a 201.5 km ride and hit up a few of my favourite roads, some of them twice. Not a fan of the tar/stone surface treatment on Pretty River Road; it's loud and has questionable traction. Some nice new pavement on CR9...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

Beautiful day for a ride yesterday. I took a short loop to the north and saw two other bikes along the way. I'm hoping to get out again on Friday, possibly up to Pretty River Road and CR9. After that I'll start carrying Stabil with me to add at fuel stops, just in case it happens to be my last...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

Yeah, retired for 13 years now. I do work two days a week at the golf course / ski hill when they are operating. I'm currently between seasons so fully retired until the hill opens in December. My rides are always north from here, so I don't deal with very much traffic on weekdays.

What did you do in your garage today..?

That was not the common practice 50+ years ago. Snows only on the rears because all cars/trucks were rear wheel drive. It's only in the last couple of decades that the snow tires on all four corners has become the norm.

What did you do in your garage today..?

I've used four snow tires on every car I have ever owned going back the the late '70s. It is a lesson I learned from my father from when we lived in Dryden back in the late '60s. Back then he started to run four studded snow tires on his car. He did this after he was T-boned at an intersection...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

After our two day ride back in the summer I felt that way. I didn't want to go for a ride for several days, but as soon as I hit the road it was ahh this is great. I don't typically ride on weekends and prefer the more peaceful weekday rides when there is far less traffic. However, after...

What did you do in your garage today..?

Even though I don't have disposable lug nuts on my car I was getting fed up with the seasonal tire change over and decided to buy new All-Weather tires to replace the OEM summer tires that came on my 2016 CX3. I then sold the old Michelin X-Ice tires, which were mounted on aluminium rims. They...

    2024 Day Trips

I hope you're not looking for fall colours on that ride. It's all but gone up here. Oct 17th, Oct 31,

What did you do in your garage today..?

I did that a couple of weeks ago. I put a block of wood under the scrape blade to keep rust stains on the floor to a minimum. Yesterday we had a few showers mixed with graupel (ice pellets) up here.

    Forks of the Credit Road

I haven't been down to The Forks in a couple of years. Like you, it is not a destination for me. I use it when I'm heading somewhere else and it's on the route, or at least a nicer option to the more direct route. At one time, say 15 to 20 years ago it was more enjoyable. It had a higher speed...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

I also rode to work yesterday. Took the scenic route again because, why not! A little chilly at first and there was still frost on the ground in shaded areas until about 11am.

    Forks of the Credit Road

It will be busy up here in Hockley Valley as well. Here's a pic from the 14th tee on Tuesday.

What did you do in your garage today..?

Perhaps you're not there yet, but we've had snow on the ground for Halloween before! It's just good planning up here to do a lot of seasonal changes before the weather goes into the crapper. BTW, I'm also hoping for some more riding, hopefully into November as well. However, I also waxed and...

    Yard art

I finally stopped for a photo of the sidecar rig on Hockley Road. I'll see what he does for Christmas.

What did you do in your garage today..?

I started the seasonal shift in the garage. Pulled the blower out of the shed and parked it in the garage. Once the snow flies I'll move the blower to the garage door and park the bike in this corner for the winter.

What did you do in your garage today..?

I like it. Thanks for the reminder; I need to sharpen and wax my skis. I usually do that after the season and then just scrape them in the fall but just didn't get around to it this year.

Prince of Wales north of 10 Sideroad Construction Closure

Thanks. I was up there on Thursday to check on progress. Only the southbound lanes had been paved and the road closed sign was still up.

    Tipping

If I'm standing when I order and take the food away, no tip! I pay cash at the counter just so I don't have to play their iPad game with the tip amount. If I'm sitting and like the food and service, then 15 to 20% on the before tax amount. I haven't taken a cab in over 20 years and have never...

Prince of Wales north of 10 Sideroad Construction Closure

Yesterday morning (Sept 19) on my usual long way to work I took a ride up Prince of Wales and was surprised to find it is now closed for construction north of 10 Sideroad. It was open on Tuesday, but Thursday morning the roadway behind the road closed sign has been completely torn up and is...

    2024 Day Trips

Still a little early in the season. We get a lot of salmon in the Nottawasaga tributary that runs through Hockley Valley. Some years the stream in front of the first tee is so full of them you could almost walk on them.
