Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

It was a cool option at the estimated $50K. Sadly, when they released it at $80K+, hell no. DOA. EDIT: Link is really slanted and misleading. Yes, VW is "halting" production. For FOUR bleeping days. Whoopy dee doo. That's a non-story.

Any bracket racers in the house?

At this point, the rider is probably the weakest link and more passes drops your times faster than more tuning.

    Modem issues.

You may not be able to provide your own. As a start, what type of service (ADSL, VDSL, Cable, FTTH, etc). Who is provider? FWIW, I have Teksavvy VDSL and they require you to use their modem. I haven't had any issues with it. When I was having some issues, I saw there was a firmware update...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

10+ years ago, a neughbour installed one of the fancy metal roof systems that looks similar to shingles. It was about $40K. Currently, many quotes for shingles are at or over that price. For kicks I got a price for rubber tile (looks like slate but laughs at hail) and it was about 4x shingles...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Many metal roofs have long life for the panels but technically need the fasteners replaced every decade or so. That's an expensive job and rarely done. Standing seam doesn't need that treatment but at 4x shingle price, outside of most budgets.

    Canada Post - Huge losses

AFAIK, CP already bought hundreds of EV's. Part of CUPW's spearing of management was they made no effort to install sufficient charging infrastructure so they are mostly parked.

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Random prices I saw were about 10% of the price of a re-roof with shingles. Does it extend the life by years? I have serious doubts (especially if only applied late in life).

Law Enforcement - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.....

Like drug users, there are a few frequent flyers (a few percent of the total criminal/homeless population) that make up a very high percentage of issues. That few percent needs to be re-streamed to stop the reign of terror. While I don't disagree that many are mental health issues at the core...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Sounds questionable. Assuming it refreshes the look, it may ne good for a quick polish before a sale. If it were the roof of the house I planned on staying in for a while, I would install new roofing. Edit: This is just a coating sprayed over top, no granular replacement. The classy version of...

    Stocks

If anyone is looking for a better CPP estimate, PWL Capital has a calculator that is substantially better than the one provided by the MyServiceCanada (which is sad but expected). MSC calculator assumes you keep working and doesn't properly account for dropout years. MSC predicts 36% high for me...

    Public Service Announcement "Wet Leaves"

We are approaching power season for the underpowered bikes. My old 450 would power wheelie below zero but was kind of a dog in the summer.

    E bikes rampaging Toronto streets

FWIW, Richmond Hill has a pretty comprehensive and easy to understand table that lists most forms of micro-mobility and where you are allowed to use them. Conspicuously absent are enclosed mobility scooters (unless they are lumped in with LSV). Given the confusion (both intentional and...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

I was theorizing that GM may want to mothball the whole thing and stop the bleeding. Selling off the company (maybe for $1) puts the liability on the new owner who may decide to kill it. That leaves Tier 1's who can make the parts but technically no OEM (I guess a third company could decide to...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

That's the theory but if the company is bankrupt, who is providing parts support? Would/could the Tier 1's provide parts to a third party that decided to take on that role?

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

It could be if GM wants to be pricks about it. Brightdrop was a separate company and they brought it in house. If they think it will be a financial drag, they could "sell" it off again to a company that throws in the towel. Better optics than GM pulling the plug.

These speed limit reductions are getting out of hand

For now. "Racing-style vehicles" may be the libs next target. They seem to like to brand things and ban them without logic.

    COVID and the housing market

Valuation definitely dropped from the peak. On the other hand, the sell it in five minutes price is still almost 50% higher than when they initiated the product in the first place so their risk has decreased substantially.

    COVID and the housing market

This one is scotia but lots of companies offer them. FWIW, HELOC increasing isn't automatic. Technically there are three buckets (mortgage, HELOC and additional credit available). You have to call them (and IIRC sign something) to push additional credit available into HELOC room. I normally do...

Where are the Toronto Jays fans

While I understand the sentiment, are there any events in Ontario where you can avoid TM? Many years ago when there was the horse show in the port lands (Cavalli?), I was going to buy tickets as my wife would love it and at the end of checkout the service fees were insane (something like 30% of...
