    Speed camera update (Sept.11)

I am OK with requiring justification for community safety zones. I can point to several ridiculous ones. As for the prevalence of speed cameras, go drive in the UK or Australia ...

    Stocks

My portfolio is +/- even relative to 6 months ago, even though i'm drawing an income, but that's after doing some rebalancing to reduce cross-border risk. I don't think the cross-border risk is all in yet, either.

Lead acid vs AGM life expectancy

Yes BUT. The charging system voltage has to deliver 14.4 volts to charge them properly. Most modern charging systems designed for sealed maintenance-free batteries will do that, but some old skool systems designed for the old batteries with fill caps do not. A charging voltage in the 13s will...

Slide this sideways into a ditch out in the boonies, and you'll need a Sikorsky to get it out.

Let's talk about the ELEPHANT in the room (certifications)

Standards exist for a reason. Imagine what would happen if they didn't exist. A Ford Model T had different controls from a curved-dash Oldsmobile and both were different from what became the modern layout of instruments and controls. Imagine if roads had no rules, no standards. Works when there...

Getting a bike from Quebec without lisense

It will be your first bike in the eyes of the insurance company. Also, your path of having the seller in Quebec be responsible for anything, is a recipe for disaster. If they cover up, or don't know about, a critical issue (e.g. something in the bike's history that prevents it from being...

    2025 WSBK Thread

Friday practice from Cremona. No surprise from Nicola Bulega. Bautista fast but fell three times. Axel Bassani!! Locatelli may have won last round, but in free-practice, the Yamahas didn't do well. Jonathan Rea is riding again, but clearly still hurting.

    Pickup Trucks

Crank windows inevitably mean there's an option for power windows. Means the mechanism inside the door is different, and the door trim panel is different between the two. Means you need to tool up for two different door designs. Means either the wiring harness is different or (usually) it's...

3D Printing out of production motorcycle parts (including metal) keeps the classics on the road.

It's one thing to make something the same shape, quite another to achieve competitive properties of strength, ductility, etc.

    Pickup Trucks

There's a reason you can no longer get a 2 wheel drive 4 cylinder 5-speed-manual standard cab Ford Ranger with no power windows or cruise control or carpet on the floor. Despite the amount of online crowing about how there aren't any cheap vehicles on the market any more, that's mostly because...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Who designed this? https://www.threads.net/@firerock31/post/DIuno_cJruw?xmt=AQGz7RtvaqRFgThDFoFKE0fmvMVSjyeL69veqVD7sbDlvg Every other truck is open underneath so that this doesn't happen. Aero covers have openings and gaps intentionally to stop this happening.

Progressively wound valve springs. Which way up??

Wrist pin circlips are best installed with the gap facing the crankshaft. If it's pointing sideways then the acceleration of the piston acts in the direction of popping it out of its groove!
