During a chat with a cop on paid duty yesterday he told me of a call regarding a person in distress, armed with a kitchen knife on a bus. He was removed and released. Next day same person, different bus, same result. Third day, rinse, repeat.

There was a movie shoot around the corner with paid duty cops manning the barricades. I got into a conversation with one of them and he told me the cops don't even know the laws. It never comes up in briefings.

More and more I trust systems more than I trust someone to get things right. Seams are dependent on perfect workmanship and too many people have bad days. Somehow a tradesperson is expected to work faster without affecting quality. The need to put profit ahead of quality reigns.
