    Who's gonna tell him?

The SDTC scandal is what is holding up Parliament right now. If that gets blown open, I won't be surprised to find a billion dollars or more that were diverted to businesses owned by Liberal MPs and their friends/family/supporters. As it stands right now, they found nearly $500M that...

SNC Lavelin itself also has a part of this, whether they reported that because of the subsidiary or not, I don't know.

Anyone do the laser eye thing?

Yep, that was me. Lots of burning pain the second time around. I listened to Joe Perry's audiobook that he wrote about Aerosmith to get me through it. My eyes stayed dry for a few months and then stopped... sometimes though, I wake up in the morning and they feel "scratchy" even a decade later.

Anyone do the laser eye thing?

My first pass didn't take. The second time around is a LOT more painful. They have to peel your half-healed eye flap back again, and man ... like being stabbed in the eyes for day, and got to keep yourself lying on your back for a week. Point being, when I got the "bandage contacts" out, I...

    Who's gonna tell him?

OK wow... I just did a bit of a dive into this high speed rail: $4B estimated cost to JUST plan and "develop," then the actual construction can be started - 5 years from now (probably more) and with a total estimated cost of $80B. Now, ask yourself why I originally posted on this thinking that...

    Who's gonna tell him?

Given the cost (roughly $4B), consider that we could have built this many times over with the waste of money the Liberals have spent on all sorts of things. For example, $2B loan to Telesat that has no product or business but does have Mark Carney as a "good friend" of Telesat.

Why don't car enthusiasts complain about 'nannies?' Or do they!?

I turn mine on "partial ESC" on the 911. Lets me get a little rear rotation under power (and off power too lol) but turns both chassis control and traction control to a lowered setting. It can also be turned entirely off if drifting is your thing.

What happens if KTM goes bust?

I still say that my 1290R super duke is one of the best bikes ever made, full stop. I am invested in it and not planning to sell at this point. Guess I'll just have to hold out faith that KTM will either survive or will be purchased and give me at least another 5 years of parts.

    Mouse Blocker

I've caught four mice in my garage this week. I think that cleared them out and I have looked around to find a nest to no avail. I got one in the workshop, it's about 1300sq per level and I make sure that everything that might smell like food is gone by fall. They don't seem to care at all...

Are you switching to Windows 11?

Maybe. I haven't turned on one in years, which has me a bit nervous about that assessment.

    Speed camera update (Sept.11)

It's more than that. If you post a speed limit dramatically (35% is dramatic to me) lower than the design and purpose of the road, people will ignore the speed limits. You would lose that bet. Study after study has been done to show that people settle in to a speed that makes sense for the...

    Speed camera update (Sept.11)

Hard disagree. There are many roads where the speed limit is set to an arbitrary limit that makes ZERO sense. In fact, they've been recently using a piece of software that simply looks at the road maps it's given and spits out a recommended speed limit for the road. Thus you get straight...

Are you switching to Windows 11?

I played the hell out of that as well. You had to be millimeter perfect at times, so frustrations abounded. I still have two Amigas. An A4000/040 and an A2000 with two drives. They were awesome in their day.

Are you switching to Windows 11?

I have a computer that meets all the specs (high-end video card, 4.5Ghz 12-core CPU) but doesn't have "secure boot," which is their attempt to force people not to use multiple OS on the computer (again). So I couldn't load Win11 on this box if I wanted to. It has nothing to do with the...

Are you switching to Windows 11?

I've been using Linux on my desktop at work since about 1999. Before that I used a mix of Solaris and Windows. There's been ups and downs but overall, the Linux desktop experience has been great for me. The only issue that I've had with it is that graphics/video gaming has been a crapshoot...

Will a ~45% US Exchange alter your vacation plans for 2025?

It will mine. Though I didn't really plan to attend a 2025 Deal's Gap run for the first time since 2021 (nobody went), I bought a good steak dinner in Watertown a couple of weeks back ... $55 USD was $88 CDN if I recall correctly... that's an expensive steak.

Are you a "Save every penny for retirement" or "Live life now" type person?

Interesting. BTW, off-season (like, March/April) in Monterey California is cheap as chips. Now, it's quite some time ago (8a) but I paid $99 a night for a room in one of the nicest places in the state. Laguna Seca is just up the hill... ;)

Are you a "Save every penny for retirement" or "Live life now" type person?

I'm set. I should retire. Racing bikes was pretty expensive but I haven't done a lot of it really, just a few years worth. I'll probably dabble in it still but as it is I have enough money to retire and live the good life. But there's two stepdaughters, one who will never be fully out of...

    deny, defend,depose

How it actually worked out: they pretend to pay us, and we pretend to work. Nope. Social services are not socialism. They're a communal good paid for by the commune who made the money via some form of capitalist productivity. In actual socialism, the services would be made available by the...

Does North America even matter any more for motorcycle sales ?

Cali makes a lot of sense for motorcycles and the roads I drove around La Jolla and Monterey were amazing. The question is, will this slump in expendable income kill the Canadian dealers? I'm concerned. Look what happened in 2008-2010.
