What's the weakest link in stopping you from riding longer?

Thanks, I'm actually on the opposite end of the spectrum, I wear XS gloves, Euro Size 6... I bought a set of aftermarket grips for my enduro, they're called PIllow-Top Grips. Made with gel-like substance and it's supposed to isolate the vibrations. You'd think with a name like that, it would...

What's the weakest link in stopping you from riding longer?

I got bored of street as well. Maybe do road trips, find roads outside of your normal radius. Fly and ride. Ship your motorcycle somewhere. Get a dirt bike or dual-sport. Get a track bike Flat track. Trials. Drag racing. Supermoto. Lots of ways to get a two-wheeled fix.

What's the weakest link in stopping you from riding longer?

We were all around the same area. Was coming back from Quebec last weekend, Gaspe to Toronto, two back-to-back 750 km days. The first day in the dirt.

LOL. Right? Anyone who's ever ridden with Shane is vigorously nodding their head right now...

What's the weakest link in stopping you from riding longer?

Yep. All of the above. Also, I want to add: 4) Don't go riding with Shane "1K? Are we all in for a 1K day? Do I hear 1K? Anyone? Anyone?" Kingsley...

I'm going to add adductor muscle cramps to my list... I thought I could have ridden it out. Nope. Thx for stopping with me!

Fav spots to stop for a quick bite during a ride?

If you're riding Upper Big Chute Road, there's a couple of piers opposite Lock 44 / Marine Railway. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded, but if you go during a weekday, normally you can get a spot right on the grass between the piers and watch the dinghies and boats go out. If you're doing...

What's the weakest link in stopping you from riding longer?

I live in the Okanagan Valley, which is 4 hours east of Vancouver and 7 hours west of Calgary. We're as close to Vancouver as Ottawa is to Toronto. Very different climate from Vancouver. We're live just north of the only technical desert in Canada. It's semi-arid which gets less than a foot of...

    European Motorcycle Tour

Some phone apps actually integrate the GPS and camera and will build you a movie with a 3D-map of your entire ride, spliced with pictures and videos from your phone. Relive: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cc.relive.reliveapp&hl=en_CA

What's the weakest link in stopping you from riding longer?

Yeah, yeah, barring all the smart-guy comments about: wife, kids, boss, other interests, your bike breaks down often because it's a Harley/KTM, poor tank range, can't afford insurance/gas/etc. I'm talking about physically. I figure most of us on GTAM are of the age where the mechanicals between...

    Steps towards a simpler life

I will give you my mom's telephone number (it's a landline, of course) and you can explain to her the difference. 🤪 She may want to feed you first.

    Steps towards a simpler life

Sometimes lack of participation in certain "Canadian" activities is deeply rooted in cultural attitudes. Parks Canada had a huge blitz a few years ago, trying to get more Asians and other newer immigrants to go camping. The program was called "Learn to Camp": They were trying to change that...

    Steps towards a simpler life

We spent several months in Botswana living in a couple of cities for a month at a time. The Chinese government has really taken advantage of several African nations, striking up rapacious deals with corrupt leaders in order to strip the countries of minerals and semi-precious stones. Lots of...

    Steps towards a simpler life

I guess what I'm trying to get across is that when you talk about assimilating to a foreign culture, whose idea of culture are you trying to assimilate to? If you emigrate to Norway, learning Norweigan is a nice gesture, but ultimately a waste of time as 90% of the population speaks English...

    Steps towards a simpler life

I think the whole idea of assimilation assumes that there is some kind of permanence of culture. Every conversation, every interaction we have with people who look and act different from you inevitably changes both you and eventually the society at large. Although it may seem more nobler to...

    Steps towards a simpler life

It's a generational thing. The first wave of immigrants come and they're essentially a beachhead generation. It's all about survival, learning the local language, customs and culture. Some do it more successfully than others. It's their kids that end up integrating fully into the community...

Just to add to all this talk about the disparity between rich ex-pats and poor locals: social strata also exists, even within developing countries. When we traveled through Costa Rica, we were contacted by a local motorcycle rider who was following our blog. He invited us to stay at his home...

    Steps towards a simpler life

No different than small logging towns in the Interior being invaded by kombucha-sipping, Ashtanga yoga moms from Vancouver and Calgary, clad in Arcteryx wardrobe worth more than the average local's monthly salary. But then again, this kind of behaviour has existed since the dawn of time and has...

Awhile ago, I helped a friend move to his new place. I loaded a bunch of large boxes into the moving truck. They were labelled 1997, 2003, 2008... Obviously unopened since he last placed all the contents in them. Reason for moving: wanted a bigger house because he said he was running out of...
