    Buying gear from Europe

It has been at least two decades since I last bought a helmet at Hein Gerike or Louis, but I do remember them filling out a form that I took with me.

    Rogers launches satellite-to-mobile service

I am not using any satellite system at the moment simply because I am not in a remote area. But I have read from many SPOT users in the past where it wasn't reliable. It need to be 100% reliable, not 80% or whatever.

    Buying gear from Europe

If that is the price at the shop, it includes VAT as anything does in Europe. You can get the VAT back but it is usually a pain to do so going through one of those "rip-off" VAT refund stations at the airport.

    Rogers launches satellite-to-mobile service

When it comes to situations in an emergency, price isn't a factor in my books. There are all these devices that came out some years ago (SPOT for example) that could be used in emergency situations that weren't all that reliable. But whatever the owner is happy with, that is all that matters.

    Rogers launches satellite-to-mobile service

With the same coverage world-wide? Same coverage as Iridium?

    Rogers launches satellite-to-mobile service

For emergencies I'd sooner get an Iridium sat phone. Some years ago when I considered doing Iceland for a month, I checked into an Iridium. Back then they were slightly bigger than a cell phone and going for about $750 and an annual package was about $360. I would only be using this for...

Where do you guys go for new tires?

Its not about the money, but making sure my rims remain scratch-free and gouge-free. Telling me "I'm sorry" won't cut it. Unfortunately, I cannot do car rims, but I'll be there watching them.

    Rogers launches satellite-to-mobile service

Starlink, imagine that Rogers hooking up with a US company. I used to be with Rogers for over two decades, but unfortunately that company missed out on a course called "competitiveness" and I finally switched. And if you used a mobile service in Europe and Australia (unlimited overseas mobile...

9½ Reasons Motorcycle Shops Are Closing That Have Nothing To Do With Sales

Exactly where I shop where it makes sense, usually in the US. Most of the time I never get charged HST. I buy gas there and go out to a luncheon buffet for less. Sort of a day out and saving money. Of course for some of us, the drive is not worth it. As for middlemen, I need a new deck after 29...

9½ Reasons Motorcycle Shops Are Closing That Have Nothing To Do With Sales

And why do we need a distributor in Canada for a population of nothing? Extra middlemen and added expense. Let me tell you about Service in Canada vs the USA. I bought a Speed Air air compressor and shortly thereafter and just out of warranty the pressure/relay switch failed on it (faulty...

9½ Reasons Motorcycle Shops Are Closing That Have Nothing To Do With Sales

Other than food, that is exactly why I shop in the US. I let my wallet do the talking. My definition of Canadian business: we want to start up our business Friday and retire Monday. MSRP, the S stands for "Suggested", not "Fixed". The fact that business here can have sales at up to 70% off...

9½ Reasons Motorcycle Shops Are Closing That Have Nothing To Do With Sales

The difference is the work you put in, you benefit from. Someone working hard for someone else does not benefit them at all. Then there is the before tax and after tax money. Your working stiff cannot write off a slew of things, a business owner can. When I go out with my friend on a ride, he...

Exactly where I bought my last bike and some accessories.

    Air India Crash

Yeah, I go down into the basement to get a tool and when I can't remember what I wanted, the toolbox drawers get pulled out. LOL

    Air India Crash

Bingo, but I watch him to see how stupid he can get. Other than that, I do not waste my time with that clown. When those two B737 MAX 8 went in within months of each other, I do not waste my time on YouTube, etc. I call my old commercial student who was just made captain on that aircraft months...

9½ Reasons Motorcycle Shops Are Closing That Have Nothing To Do With Sales

Whatever the countless reasons there are, my wallet does the talking. I shop where I am ahead just as a business owners would. And with the border being a skip, guess where. And knowing a few of owners, none of them were hurting. In fact, they are living tons better than the vast majority of us.

    Air India Crash

I’m just saying that there remain other possibilities. Exactly what Wingboy said and why I have zero use for armchair pilots on YouTube with zero time as PIC. The other guy I cannot stand is Richard Quest spewing off on TV on ML 370, etc.

    Air India Crash

Back in the days when I was instructing. This transient flew in, parked on our ramp and he still had his rudder lock in place. You know the two pieces of 1 x 3 lumber with a threaded rod and wing nuts. Obviously he never knew what a control lock is. And his run-up prior to take-off must have...
