    Cycle Mafia scores a win!

I used to live 8 km from work. It would take 8 minutes door to door and 12 to cross the city. Then we tore down the Gardiner. It went to half an hour or more. Since they’ve reduced the lanes from three to two near Marilyn Bell Park, it’s closer to an hour, even at 06:30. I rode my bicycle...

    Cycle Mafia scores a win!

6:30 am and the Gardiner is jammed from High Park on. Once you get past Jarvis everyone’s doing a buck twenty. Boggles the mind. How do councillors/mayors get reelected?

    Cycle Mafia scores a win!

If you do it right only one vehicle merges in front of you right where the lane ends. It goes sideways when Good Samaritan lets everyone and his brothers and sisters in before they get anywhere near the merge point. I find the difficult part is discouraging people from merging early. Some get...

    Cycle Mafia scores a win!

I’m curious as to how the burden of proof worked in this constitutional case. Cyclists don’t have to prove how taking public transit will be more dangerous, but the government has to prove that removing cycling lanes will improve gridlock. Isn’t the onus usually upon the people making the...

The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

In Ottawa suburbs, they put them in 40 zones that once were 80 zones. Dead straight with a clear view ahead, always aimed at the downhill side. The person/company with the contract is fortunate.

What's your most neglected maintenance item on your motorcycle?

Used to be chain, until mine got some frozen links on a ride to Alabama.

Couldn't get a boost to save my life

Oof, I’m in Kenya at the moment. Texted some friends, who might be there and might get the text.

We’re doing two weeks and the itinerary is all set. I think it’s with National Geographic. Wife seems worried about pickpockets and robberies. I’m not sure where she got that from.

Going to do a couple of safaris in Africa. Should be interesting in Kenya and Tanzania. Anyone been yet? It’s good to get around and see other people, places and cultures. Though, this one, like Galapagos, is more for the wildlife.

What's the one thing you always forget or wish you'd brought on long trip on 2 wheels?

A small cover to keep dew off of the seat.

What size of bike for 2 up ?

The problem is that you could get something like the old Honda V65 Magna or Yamaha VMax, and just leave it in second gear, but they're not meant to carry a passenger, unless you both weigh 150 lbs (68 kg). It's a similar issue with some of the sport touring bikes. I'm not sure if they've...

What size of bike for 2 up ?

You'd have to also take into consideration the GVWR. Some big bikes can't hold much weight. They have a passenger seat, but the passenger needs to weigh under 30 kilos.

What size of bike for 2 up ?

A friend had a 650 Savage, and road across Canada on it. It didn't like to be in a single gear at highway speeds. It kept wanting to be shifted up, then down, then up, then down . . . Bought a 750 Shadow and it seemed fine, even for the rare two up, which differs from Shane's experience. My 650...
