    Electric Lawn Mower?

We have a corded blower, like a corded mower just start near the plug and work outwards and the cord is not an issue, always behind you... Neighbour has a big gas one. The electric one is much faster with smaller snow falls as you can move way faster (weight and manoeuvrability), say 10cm or...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Today's project was folding stairs for attic access using folding ladder hinges. These will eventually be hidden behind a swing out bookcase. Treads are temp, there will be HW treads throughout and risers on the top part once all the other work is done. A bit of a PITA as everything needs...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Yes/agree the kitchen is the most likely one to have burnt up insulation as people liked to put multiple high wattage incandescent bulbs in them back in the day--first place to check. The 60°C wiring at the time just could not handle it, but any overhead light is a risk IME. Asbestos was a...

    LA Fires

Hopefully they scan such content and bring down the hammer on anyone that posts it using drone footage in banned areas. Not them flying the drone, tell us where you got it... One can only be hopeful.

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

A 1960s house IS an old house (what do you consider an old house?)! It was an old house IMO when purchased at 30 years old. Luckily/hopefully in the first 30 years it was not molested by previous owner(s) which can be a big cause of problems. Upside. IMO bones tend to be good but in that era...

    COVID and the housing market

Living in the hills just install the pool above the house up the hill... siphon sprinklers. /s

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Taking new into a couple of classes. Track housing, condos, towns (even called luxury or not) tend to be pretty poorly built over the last decades. Specially the non-surface viewable/mechanical items. Just a factor of the trades shortages and the rates they are (were) building at. Some years...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

That only works if you never live there past 10 (maybe 15 years)... A properly updated old house is no different in that context.

    LA Fires

I doubt any retro fits or prevention to the houses there, many built long before this was as serious an issue, would sustain what is happening now (historic levels). Even full on concrete bunkers unless they don't have windows maybe... Just look at where it has hit areas with Pueblo...

    LA Fires

To be fair, the attraction is living surrounded by trees in the hills not everyone wants to live in the prairies or some treeless suburbs full of track housing.... Not much different than say living in North Van and many other places Climate change/low rain for years on end throws a wrench into...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Transmissions on new vehicles are also not cheap... and also long lead times. Long term 10+ years old there is always the possibility of a rebuilt of wrecker eng/trans. I don't think we are there yet at scale with EV batteries?

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

My guesses... either really bad luck to have two bad packs in a row OR the dealer messed up the first replacement one. In the end how many have they swapped or was this the first one this dealer ever did? At least the bumpers did not fall off....

    Coyotes

As much as people walking around with radios playing annoys me noise is a good thing. It is like back country hiking with a bear bell, it prevents the surprise meetings that could turn bad. If the animal is stalking you it does not matter much one way or another...

    Coyotes

I think the best bet is to carry something that is obviously for another purpose that can be used if required. MP has the right idea. Reasonable manner or not, something that serves only as a weapon is more likely to get you in trouble even if not used. Maybe the courts will decide no harm no...

What happens if KTM goes bust?

Liquidation may be pre, during and post many items on that list. But it can also very likely be the hard stop end. I see Saab as a "recent" automotive example. Not 100% exactly the same starting point but a possible to likely end point and journey.

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

24 years, the usual past due to redo what was previously done.... the never ending loop.

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

I am so far behind on the current major projects the wife would not dare add to the list. She also knows my response will be you know where the tools are.

    Speed camera update (Sept.11)

My guess is they went to the raised ones (vs the ground mounted boxes/pedestals) to prevent vandalism (painting and stickers on the cameras). Doesn't look like that is working out.

    Stocks

I realized it pretty quickly and did not get burned but I used to do more or less the same (just type into Google). Once on Google searching TD the first one that popped up (sponsored ad) was a phishing site, looked legit. I noticed the URL was off but I am sure many got burned. I would expect...
