Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

There's some good reading on live robo-taxis if you search "Waymo" or "Cruise taxi". San Francisco has/had some pilot programs, and apparently Texas cities are prohibited from regulating autonomous vehicles due to a state law. A gaggle of Cruise taxis stop in the middle of the city, blocking...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

I saw a social media post of someone who had it happen to them. They said they just stepped on the brake, which automatically cuts the throttle regardless of the throttle pedal position. I think this might be a mandated feature on all passenger vehicles now. My econobox does it, which is kind of...

I meant the guy standing behind his vehicle looking down at his phone in the middle of the 401.

2024 MotoGP Discussion Thread (No Links - May Contain Spoilers

I snort-laughed at the commentary in Sunday's warmup session. They were talking about the Saturday sprint results: "There were two big losers, you'd have to say, yesterday." <camera pans over> "Here's one of them: Pecco Bagnaia"

2024 MotoGP Discussion Thread (No Links - May Contain Spoilers

You probably didn't miss much from the commentary, except for a dozen or more references to "the horsepower rodeo". The official MotoGP app lets you turn the commentary audio off, so TSN probably just grabbed the wrong stream. It's kind of nice to shut the commentators off when they get too...

    Vacations and big poppas adventures

I trained mine right away to live with a single carry-on bag. Not even a roller bag, because they are heavy even when empty, but a real soft-sided backpack. Everything is so much easier when you aren't lugging around 150lbs of crap that you don't use. She still vastly overpacks her bag, but at...

    Princess Auto drops the ball

They have a separate tag for 'surplus' on items, but you can't filter by that tag on the web site. There's a whole surplus category though. There is a different tag for 'discontinued/clearance', and you can filter by that one on the website. There's also a filter for 'Active', whatever that means??

    Princess Auto drops the ball

Their "Hot Buy" category is weird. Some of those items are actually on sale (with a clear marked discount from regular price). Some items like that tool chest have a "sale date" listed but no marked discount, so they're just regular price? Maybe the "hot buy" label just indicates which items...

Armor or no Armor that is the question..

If nothing else, this thread has prompted me to dig out my old DVD of 'Faster' to make sure that I hadn't imagined Barry Sheene claiming to be the inventor of the back protector in 1973. Made from old helmet visors "so that it could only bend forwards and couldn't bend backwards".

Armor or no Armor that is the question..

Varnsverry is very much on the side of the consumer, and pushing the manufacturers to do the right thing, but he and the associated PPE/safety orgs are pushing a very heavy stone up a very steep hill. The big manufacturers had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the current EN17092 A/AA/AAA...

Some interesting stuff pinned to the top of the F9 video comments: with a response from Paul Varnsverry himself, which is actual good advice:

Armor or no Armor that is the question..

Yes, it's clickbait, but not in the typically 'influencer' sense where the only purpose is to get fake internet points. There are links to conventional replacement armour pieces in the video description too. The specific airbag they're hawking is brand new, available in May. I see the entire...

Armor or no Armor that is the question..

The point of the F9 video is to sell airbags. There are links right in the video description, and he hawks them at the end of the video. He's not really misrepresenting anything about the impact/injury data, but he's intentionally presenting a very narrow view for a specific marketing purpose by...

What he's saying in that video is not right. It's about $600 for the physical airbag, but then you choose the subscription OR you can pay a one-time fee of $500 to permanently enable the device with no ongoing subscription fees. Not both. GP Bike's site has the details: Klim AI-1 Airbag Vest...
