    storage dolly recommendation?

I use a bunch of different dollies to enable my motorcycle habit. It's like Tetris in the garage to get them all packed in nicely for winter storage. I've got two of this style, and the rear wheel platform measures exactly 10 inches wide on both of them. The casters aren't the greatest and it...

What did you do in your garage today..?

We have a roll-down blind thing on the gazebo that blocks the wind a bit. The 2K clear coat is hideously noxious, so some wind is a good thing to clear the stink out fast enough that the neighbors don't complain.

What did you do in your garage today..?

I spray painted a set of track fairings on the patio this morning. Everyone knows to use a 2K epoxy clear coat for durability, but the secret to a truly professional track finish is to have tweezers on hand to pick the flies and grasshoppers out of the clear coat before it dries.

    Rabaconda tire changer

Totally agree. I watched the video before reading your comment and my first thought was that working on your knees sucks, and needing to brace the Constands with your body to keep it from moving sucks even more. You can fix one of those things by bolting it to the floor, but it would be awkward...

    Rabaconda tire changer

The spare wheels for the new trackbike were delivered yesterday, so this morning I swapped the Dunlop rain tires from the spare wheels of the old bike to the spare wheels of the new bike. And I timed myself, since all the cool kids are doing it. It was about 40 minutes including workspace setup...

    Lock for helmet?

If you want to get fancy, some nylon-coated cable, a couple of cable crimp sleeves to make loops on the ends, and a conventional padlock will give you a custom-length cable lock. I made one long enough to run through the sleeves of my riding jacket so that it can be locked to the bike. The...

What did you do in your garage today..?

For capacitive touchscreens I just use a cheap stylus because it's way more precise than gloves with capacitive fingertips. A bit of twisted wire on the bars works as a holder. I'm not in the habit of using it while in motion.

Got a chance to ride at a private track!!!

It looks like you can sell the $50k membership after holding it for 5 years, so with some mental gymnastics you could convince yourself that it is an investment. Calabogie is probably the best Canadian comparison, and $4000 only buys you 10 days there. I think Pro6 is now the exclusive...

What did you do in your garage today..?

I've finally managed to fit the fiberglass bodywork on the new race/track bike. This was my first time fitting new bodywork to a bike and it was much more of a pain in the butt than I was anticipating. I started out very carefully, making sure not to scratch or scuff anything. By the end I was...

building a ramp for a shipping container?

Semi-joke suggestion: attach an 8x8 plywood ramp to the exterior of the container, hinged at the bottom like a castle drawbridge. Dress up the underside of the ramp to look like a fence or shed to hide the aesthetics of the container when the drawbridge is raised. Semi-serious suggestion: just...

building a ramp for a shipping container?

I use a pin (rope hook) on the underside of my ramp, paired with a hole at the back of my open trailer deck. Doubled-up 3/4" plywood screwed together will support any medium-sized bike and let you pick whatever width that you feel comfortable with.

MotoGP 2025 Discussion Thread *Warning: Spoilers allowed*

He just caught 11 more breaks (ribs, ouch!) Technically, it's a safety thing. Too low pressure means the tire flexes and heats up too much as compared with the conditions Michelin designed it to operate in, potentially leading to catastrophic failure. The problem is that the temp is so...

MotoGP 2025 Discussion Thread *Warning: Spoilers allowed*

Losial was a messy race all-round with the number of contact incidents. The marshals are going to be sweeping bits of carbon fiber off the track for days. I do like that the stewards (Simon) handed out consistent mid-race penalties for the ones that deserved it. I wonder when the FIM is going...

Trailer ownership with you in vehicle?

I do carry the trailer permit in the tow vehicle. I haven't ever been pulled over while towing, but I figure that offering it along with the vehicle permit shows that I'm one of those boring guys that follow (almost) all the rules. Might be enough to convert a speeding ticket into a warning...

MotoGP 2025 Discussion Thread *Warning: Spoilers allowed*

What a mess. Race delayed or not, everyone who left the grid at the last second should have been given a ride-through penalty. That rule was added to prevent the same situation that screwed Miller in 2018:

    Power leads for heated gear

Looking at photos of the Macna cables it sure looks like a standard 5.5mm x 2.5mm coax connector, but it's hard to eyeball these things over the internet. I have a bunch of loose 5.5mm x 2.5mm connectors and 5.5mm x 2.1mm connectors and it's a little hard to tell them apart even when you have...

Pirelli is allegedly going to be the tire supplier starting in 2027, alongside the switch to 850cc machines and restricting aero and ride-height devices. Changing everything all at once is going to be total chaos, probably in a good way...

    Fouling plugs

It's been a number of years since I've tuned carbs, but if it runs well at near-full throttle then it sounds like your main jet is good. If it's only fouling at part throttle then that sounds like needle position and/or needle jet. Changing the clip position on the needle is free. I think you'd...

What did you do in your garage today..?

I had serious envy looking at that room at the end of the video. Even the stainless service tables at the beginning of the video are double the horizontal working space that I have. The next improvement to the garage is definitely going to be 10 or 12 feet of folding shelves/benches/tables...
