Yeah, I think the sign says to watch for loose gravel which there is but if you stay in the tire tracks you should be fine.
Still, I'm gonna avoid this stretch for a while.
NOBODY buys a GTR and keeps it stock. It is one of the easiest cars to mod and gain massive power so yeah, if you run into one on the street (especially on the highway) it will leave you in the dust regardless of what you are riding. The only chance to beat one is from a stop and that's only...
Finally had a chance to do this route this past weekend. Northerntouring's write up on his website is great. The scenery is fantastic though I didn't really find any part of 129 to be technical. Mostly long sweepers and a very remote feeling which I enjoyed.
On 129 there is little opportunity...
Re: Scarborough -> Lake Louise -> Chicago -> Scarborough + Pics, Experiences etc..
You racked up some impressive mileage on your trip. I don't know how you managed to ride halfway across Canada in just two days as most riders wouldn't make it out of Ontario in that period. Way to go!
Thanks for answering SVs.
I'm heading up to Wawa next weekend. I had thought that 129 was part gravel so was going to avoid that part but after what you folks are saying I think I need to incorporate that into my ride.
Question is do I go to Wawa through 129 first and back around on 17 or vice...
If you want to make your second day more interesting you can ride from Owen Sound to Southampton and take that road down through Kincardine, Bayfield, Goderich and Grand Bend. The towns are really cool to see. The only boring part is the ride back towards the city. It's real straight when you...
Markdale is tiny with nothing to do. I would stay in Owen Sound where you at least have restaurants and a movie theatre. Try the breakfast at the Dragon Fly Cafe which is just south of OS on Hwy 6. My favorite breakfast place.
You might also consider staying in Port Elgin or Southampton which...
I would caution you about using trucks to clear the way of any deer. Trucks won't stop for deer but it is possible that they run one down and leave the carcass in your path as you follow behind him. There wouldn't be enough time to avoid it if one ended up on the road in front of you.
At 11am I think you're leaving too late.
There are a ton of deer in Ohio, PA...hell, any of the north eastern states. I would avoid riding at dusk and night altogether.
I just got back from a trip to TN and we had a couple of close calls with deer during the day and saw a ton of deer carcasses...
The road was fine a few weeks earlier when I took it. There will be new pavement no doubt as this is the main cottage road leading into Buckhorn. Not sure when it will be completed though so I'm staying away for a few weeks.
You're asking the wrong forum that question.
The Sportie is looked at as a beginner's bike or a chick's bike because if it's small size and light weight.
If most of your riding is going to be inner city then that bike should work out great.
That's a tough 400kms as you're staying within the city with numerous lights, traffic, etc.
Have you considered zipping up to Sauble Beach and back? You'd put on roughly the same mileage with a much more relaxing ride.
Rode up this way today and about 6kms before Buckhorn the road turns into gravel. Encountered big gravel stones and to make matters worse most of it was wet so it was a semi-muddy gravel road. Lower half of bike was covered in mud by the time we reached Buckhorn. There was no warning and no...
