    Canada Post - Huge losses

Note that earlier this thread I commented that in a city the size of Guelph, we have LOST 25 routes in the past 20 years. ***There is a pre-defined “Iron Ring” around certain city boundaries for every city. Anything built outside of the Ring counts to a different area of delivery (RSMC). All...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

We sort our routes, pull the mail and put them into relay bags. These relay bags get delivered around the city by either “CUS” (contracted workers, non CP) or part time CP workers with vans. I have no idea which reality you’re living in, but 3-4 hours a day is completely a falsehood. I...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

As I said earlier in this thread, CP needs to adapt a regional delivery fee. Just like UPS, FedEx, Purolator etc. Right now it costs the same to mail a letter across the street as it does from Newfoundland to Vancouver Island. Germany charges more for internal lettermail than CP does., And you...

I agree pretty much 100% with what you say. Only problem is the once a week delivery. Does that include parcels and packets? Or just letter mail?

We live in a society of Karens nowadays… I had a complaint lodged against me that their maiil was wet, on a day of torrential rains… Like seriously. WTF.

Those are RSMC’s. (Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers). They, for the vast majority, supply their own vehicles. Yes. They are paid fuel and mileage - the exact amount, I don’t know. They have a slightly different contract compares to regular LC’s (Letter Carriers). The F-150 is a semi common...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

That’s the thing. People don’t like change. It’s easy to just open your door, reach around to your mailbox and see if anything’s there. Getting your shoes on, maybe a jacket etc takes effort. Which people don’t like. Why make it harder than necessary? My house has a super box… I drive right by...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

Initially, it would cost them millions upon millions of dollars. The superboxes are not cheap. They are installed by contractors. They need to get city approval for locations of the boxes. Then they need to buy a sh1t ton of delivery vehicles. Need to restructure all of the routes, which takes...

It was more along the lines of: CP: You want to strike? Fine. Here you go (Proceeds to hand $8M bill to union boss). That’s for November benefits etc. There was no negotiation. It was a hard middle finger from CP to CUPW.

    Canada Post - Huge losses

I mentioned it earlier in this thread… CUPW proposed Postal Banking to CP. CP flat out refused. CUPW pointed out “France made something like €3.6B ($5.041B Canadian) with postal banking last year (French Postal System Report - 2024 interim results) CP refused to even consider it despite the...

Well, the letter carriers get “restructured” every 2-3 years on average. In the past 20 years, TWENTY-FIVE full time letter carrier positions have been erased in the Guelph depot alone. The routes are made longer and longer and longer each time. Basically, a route gets removed, pieces of it get...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

Not a bad idea… but you see, there’s a tidbit of information that seems to get glossed over or people are simply unaware of. The CP/CUPW collective bargaining agreement expired 3 years ago. CUPW offered to renew the old agreement because it was Covid times and nobody really knew anything about...

"Back brake only, you'll crash if you use your front brake!"

This is the way. My bike (KTM RC8r) has a heavy freaking clutch, even though it’s hydraulic. I don’t have an issue holding the lever in for 3-4 minutes at a time, even with shorty levers.

"Back brake only, you'll crash if you use your front brake!"

My last trip to the Dragon Pre-Covid had exactly the same thing. A couple days before we arrived, a cruiser rider who switched to a ZX14 had an interview with God because of the rear brake fixation. From what the trooper told me, guy was on his first week of the ZX14. His buddies said he...

"Back brake only, you'll crash if you use your front brake!"

Because you have just taken away pretty every evasive maneuver you can make when stopped. Someone coming up behind you too busy texting to see you? Well, now you can’t move unless you jump off your bike to get away. Plain and simple.

    Canada Post - Huge losses

OK, out of curiousity, how many delivery employees does UPS have compared to CP? We have 55,000 letter carriers / clerks. For example, 55K vs 20K (pure speculative number). You can pay/double comp the wages etc of the 20K and still be less than the 50K. That could easily explain the total wage...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

I realize this. From my understanding of GreyGhost's message, it was 72K employees at Canada Post. My logic says, 72K - 55K (CUPW) = 17K management.
  18. BigEvilDoer

    Canada Post - Huge losses

Well, there’s only 55,000 unionized employees in CUPW. IF your number of 72,000 is correct, that means that there are 17,000 management positions. 17,000 Management for 55,000 regular CUPW employees. That’s an absolutely absurd ratio!

From what I understand, it will get sent to customs for review and then get sent to a customs warehouse for CP pick up when the strike is over.

How is that any different from the bailouts for GM, Ford etc?
