The boat is a Kelt 7.6. It's a very unique engine layout for sure. Often there's a mount hung off the transom, but this is inside the cockpit and in front of the rudder. Unconventional, but makes accessing the motor and steering with it at low speed very handy. Also means it doesn't get swamped...

We don't remove the engine, we just throw it in reverse when its off so that it's locked down. From what I've read, many small outboards don't lock in forward gear so that if you run into something it just pops the motor up. Generally the prop force keeps it fully down in forward, but in Neutral...

It locks down when in reverse, otherwise it would pop up, but in forward (and I think neutral), it's unlocked. I am pretty sure its a safety feature in case you run into something, but it's not an issue I would run into on the sailboat. Sometimes if we move forward at a few knots, and I...

Good idea! Might try that next time we remove the ply (though hopefully that isn't for a good long while).

Quick aside as well - has anyone ever done a mod to their outboard to prevent it from going up? We have it right in front of the rudder and if you throw it into reverse when its slightly up, it will be unlocked and shoot back into the rudder. Only happened once, but I am thinking it would be...

Transom is quite wide. We have the fiberglass main section, and then marine ply painted and lightly glued to both sides as sacrificial pieces that we will replace every few years. We probably have half an inch to spare at this point for the motor mounting, so it would likely have to be a really...

Yoga mat is actually genius! I will definitely try that. Thankfully the hole in the cockpit well for the engine is smaller then the top of it, so even if it comes loose it wont go far. Might bang up our nice fiberglass job though...

This is why I ask the questions here

Good to know vibrations are likely fine. I've had good luck with this motor and it's needed nothing but oil changes so far. We will likely put a rubber piece on the side where the screws go onto the transom mount and see if that helps even slightly. Don't use the engine much except to get in...

Hey all! Friends and I just finished repairing an in-cockpit outboard engine well on our 25 foot sailboat. The mount was fully rotted away so we re-cored and rebuilt the fibreglass mount for the motor (which is a Tohatsu 6hp 4-stroke for those wondering). I don't imagine anything is different...

Thanks for all the tips everyone! Will check out other crimpers, and the folding over trick on small gauge wire (which is basically all of my lighting wire) might have saved me a lot of headache regarding terminals coming apart...

    Air Cooled EFI Triumph Surging/Bogging

I think the issue wasn't originally present when I got the bike. I changed the tune shortly after buying because I wasn't sure if it was running stock fuel map and wanted to try preserving engine life by making it fuel correctly. The issue popped up once I did the map. I then managed to get...

    Air Cooled EFI Triumph Surging/Bogging

I just got TuneECU to run on a Tablet I picked up today. I will try getting it connected to the bike and reinstall the O2 sensors, restore the air filter to the original cover as opposed to the bellmouth, and try running the OEM Triumph Supplied Arrow tune to see how it runs. From what I've...

    Air Cooled EFI Triumph Surging/Bogging

Oh, interesting! I might have to give that a go. I think I'll try the Ultra-Copper for now just to see how it goes (I've read that it seems to be fine for some folks). But if that fails, this may be the next route I go. May not help the bogging/surging, but could minimize the pops perhaps.

What do you mean by packing rope? Not sure if I know what that is. I've also read of some folks wrapping tin foil as well. Might have to use some gasket maker to keep it from slipping around, but wonder if that could work.

    Air Cooled EFI Triumph Surging/Bogging

Yeah I've seen videos on youtube of people putting gasket maker deep in the female end (what I was planning to do), but you're right, the exhaust temps from header to midpipe will be insane... I do wonder if it's worth trying though. Or maybe there's another way to seal it up better? Packing...

    Air Cooled EFI Triumph Surging/Bogging

One more interesting update. I don't know why I didn't pay attention to this sooner. So the Arrow 2-1 Midpipe and Silencer are held on with those spring hook things that I always see on snowmobiles and dirt bikes. From what I've read, Arrow doesn't instruct to install sealant when mating the...

    Air Cooled EFI Triumph Surging/Bogging

Once I get TuneECU going, I'll try to install the Triumph OEM tune for this specific exhaust and reattach the O2 sensors to see if that solves anything. I believe it's Map 20514 according to TuneECU. Maybe that's what I will start with, since that would at least give me an OEM baseline for how...

    Air Cooled EFI Triumph Surging/Bogging

I just looked up my VIN on the Triumph site. No dice for me unfortunately (or fortunately?) Thanks for the tip though! Was definitely worth a check, and this sounds very similar to my issue, so I'm inclined to still not rule it out despite being told this system is functioning normally.

I'm just flipping through the manual now to gauge what they suggest to troubleshoot. It's a laundry list about a page long but it covers what I have below and then a pile more. Personally, I've read that the following things could cause these issues: - Bad Ignitors - Map Sensor, or the vacuum...
