Hard to beat a Moen product. After cursing the install of my POS stainless steel sink, the install of the Moen single control faucet was a pleasure. And yes they stand behind every faucet they make.
Except for the world's ugliest windscreen I don't mind the look of it. BMW has built some pretty bad looking bikes but this I can live with.

You shouldn't have to drill all the way to the end of the bolt.
I'd find out the length of the bolt, depth mark the drills an 1/8-3/16 shy of the length. Drilling carefully starting with an about a 1/8" drill and working up is a tried and true method. It's worked for me on multiple occasions...
Sadly my guys are a bit too far for you. They are straighter shooters who only fix what you need and don't goon you on the price.

I made a very similar tool that I have zip tied to my racks.
I simply cut off one of the tubular aluminum adjustable height legs off of a discarded handicap shower chair and made a plug for the cut end.
