    Finishing Basement - Insulation Question

So far, it looks like poly is required on the inside if the foam is less than 2"... I also contacted the manufacturer (Foamular / Owens Cornering Canada) yesterday who simply suggested to refer to our local building codes. EDIT: Received an email which stated -- "In most cases, Foamular can...

    Finishing Basement - Insulation Question

No comparison.... Old is much more structurally sound unless your building a custom home $$$ (as long there is no asbestos and knob & tube).

    Finishing Basement - Insulation Question

The builder would of probably insisted on the injection repair from the inside which I did not want. On the positive side, when I trenched I added an additional yard of clear gravel over the weeping tile as there was barely anything there; replaced about 10' of the black membrane as it was...

    Finishing Basement - Insulation Question

You're absolutely right! They say every house gets water in the basement sooner or later. It's just a matter of doing the proper repair and not temporary patch work...... That's part of the reason i didn't want to do the foundation crack injection from the inside in the two cracks which...

    Finishing Basement - Insulation Question

That is exactly what started this reno.... :p Last fall/winter saw some moisture on the floor below the insulation. Decided to wait until the spring to do the repair. I ended up removing all the insulation in the basement and found two cracks 6 feet apart. Of course, my luck the warranty...

    Finishing Basement - Insulation Question

If i don't seal the top and bottom with foam it won't be a VB and I'll poly it......... then it defeats the purpose of installing the foam board.... Otherwise I can start the project now and determine whether the poly is needed around early December when it's below 0.

    Finishing Basement - Insulation Question

I will probably play it safe and install a 1" foam and poly. I found the "Best Practice Guide - Full Height Basement Insulation - Ontario - Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing" for anyone wanting more info. Also for anyone thinking of going with the spray foam, you may want to check...

    Finishing Basement - Insulation Question

From the various sites I've read it appears the days of framing + batt insulation + vapor barrier in the basement for poured concrete walls is no longer enough on its own. Although builders still do it because of the cost - it meets the minimum code of R12 for gas heating. I'm looking into...

Bell Fibe upgrade - Please help me understand

I just switched from cable on Acanac to DSL on Velcom and successfully put the modem (sagemcom f@st 2864) in bridge mode. With the firmware that came with modem, it only allows telnet access for about 10 seconds, so copy and paste all the commands and then manually reboot. Before I switched to...

    Recommend a snow blower

AHH... last year we had two major snow falls (>15"), one of which I was cursing the whole 3 hours of shoveling. I'm not doing that again! I'd rather have a machine collecting dust than not have one at all.

    Recommend a snow blower

Thanks for all the replies. A LOT of good info. I will check out costco as that is one place i didn't consider. Otherwise, I will wait until late November or early December... Thanks again.

    Recommend a snow blower

Before we know it the white stuff will be on the ground and I'd like to get a head start in shopping around. Any recommendations on brand or store would be great. A 24"-27" two stage should do. I was initially leaning towards the Craftman or Toro, however, there was a long thread about the...

Landlord died; his family crazy. Advice please

I remember reading something about an "escrow account", which may apply in this case.... You would deposit the monthly rent into this account until there is a new landlord... Edit: AH, I remember, it was on Judge Judy! The defendant was withholding payments for some outstanding issue and JJ...
