    Running.. ugghh

After barely any running since this past February, I'm starting up again. Trying to build it up slowly. Plan is to try to get out and run an all out 5K at the track by the end of October to see where I stand (hoping it's around 21min). Goal is to break 19 minutes for 5K by spring.

    Running.. ugghh

First, congrats on your bike split. Regarding the bold part, that's because for most people staying in the saddle while climbing is more efficient. They spend less energy climbing in the saddle. Climbing well is all about power to weight and proper gearing for the course. Many people under...

Why Android is better than iPhone.

Let's start with basics, what is an operating system? Let me give you a hint: how you (the end user) interact with a device has nothing to do with it. Once you know what OS is, it should be quite clear that the concept I described (hardware abstraction) is universal across all the operating...

Why Android is better than iPhone.

Actually, no. The design concepts I mentioned are universal. You'd know that if you would bother to try to understand what an operating system actually is. No where did I say android is not fragmented. Re-read what I wrote. see my reply to iridebikes.

Why Android is better than iPhone.

I think this pretty much sums up why we feel differently. You want phone=console, me phone=pc. Pluses and minuses for each. See ya.

Why Android is better than iPhone.

I never said that they don't care, I said they should not care (if the model was followed by people munging android code around), except for few and far between cases. One such case I can think of is underpowered graphics card, but that's nothing new for game development. You write for xbox...

Why Android is better than iPhone.

Viruses are not exclusive to open source operating systems. As you mentioned windows (which certainly is not open source) has a severe problem with them. If you jailbreak your iPhone and download apps from unreliable sources, you make it as susceptible to viruses as an android phone...

Why Android is better than iPhone.

I have nothing against Apple or iOS. The phone is nice to use and any time I used it I had no problems. The only thing missing is a more affordable option. You want apple goodness, unfortunately you have to pay (more than I want to). I only have a problem with people blaming Android problems...

Why Android is better than iPhone.

Ok people. It is clear that most of you have no clue what open source is all about, so let me explain. An open source project has a main line development tree and a maintainer. In case of a small project this could be a single person, or in case of larger projects it could be multiple people...

Why Android is better than iPhone.

That's why you pick a target audience for your product and cater to it. For example, what good is a camera app for a phone without a camera. Also, there are strategies to make your software more portable, but that requires planning. I guess it's easier to ***** in a blog about fragmentation...

Why Android is better than iPhone.

The reason Steve can be anal about his OS and hardware is because he can be (he's the only provider of one version of each). "Locking down android hardware" - that's absurd, go "lock down windows hardware" while you are at it. Developers crying that their software has "performance issues" on...

Why Android is better than iPhone.

We don't care about everyone under the sun. Hell, you can change the OS and publish it, doesn't mean anyone will use it. The problem is that the phone manufacturers don't care about making the OS portable and maintainable. All they care about is getting their phone out the door and people...

Why Android is better than iPhone.

The problem is not open source. It's how it is being used. What you said above is equivalent to "my bmw was the problem because it let me drive it into a tree". I think you must have confused security with obscurity. Two completely different concepts.

Why Android is better than iPhone.

We get it. You love the iphone and hate android. Repeating "andoid is garbage" over and over does not make it true. In fact both iphone and android phones are quite good. Which one is better depends on ones preferences/needs. Iphone has lots of features and ties nicely into all the apple...

    Running.. ugghh

A friend of mine had 'weak knees'. In her case custom orthotics made a huge difference. No more knee problems for her during walking/running. Couple of things that stand out from your post are heel/knee pain. The basic idea of a 'proper' running form are that you are not slowing yourself...

    Running.. ugghh

There's alot of information out there on hiit that suggests that it works, I can't comment as I've not tried it for weight loss. IMO running is not ideal for building endurance, as it is high impact and increasing mileage too fast (a common occurrence) is a good way to get injured and throw...

    Running.. ugghh

4-5 times a week is good. I found the info in this post quite useful: http://forum.slowtwitch.com/Slowtwitch_Forums_C1/Triathlon_Forum_F1/Run_Training_-_The_Program_(part_1)_P2545826/ It's a little long but, but the concepts described there really worked for me.

    Running.. ugghh

Congrats on your long run. BTW how often / how much do you run weekly? Reason I ask, sometimes you can get more benefit from more shorter runs. In running, frequency imo is key.

    Running.. ugghh

I've been running for years. I do it because I like it. It's a great way to clear your mind, do some thinking or just get in tune with your body. I tried running with music, but it doesn't work for me. A lot of people that start running have trouble with pacing. Remember it is not a race...
