    Running.. ugghh

I have high arches and use the saucony kinvaras for the last year and a half (used the 2s and now the 3s). I like the light weight and they have plenty of cushioning for me (sometimes I wish they had more on my long runs). This is the first pair that I'm keeping track of kms and I have almost...

    Running.. ugghh

Kudos on dropping 60 lbs, but there are easier ways if you hate running so much :) ... Anyway, did the MEC Burlington trail race this past saturday. It was at Dundas Valley Conservation Area. They have a pretty nice trail system there which I didn't know about. Would recommend it if you...

    Running.. ugghh

Thought I'd bump this thread since the season is starting right about now. Also MEC burlington has a trail race next weekend if anyone is interested 5/9/12k for $15, $20 on race day. See you guys on the roads and trails this season.

Stupidly overpriced app for sale thread

I don't want to get into a semantic debate, but "code it once and copy it effortlessly..." is true of all software. What makes it a product is the fact that someone is willing to buy it, and I don't necessarily mean pay for the software itself. It could be paying for a service that you need...

Stupidly overpriced app for sale thread

I don't know whether they're worth the money, but saying they make nothing is not correct. Software is a product and apparently a lot of people like this particular one.

    Running.. ugghh

So I finally had some time this year to train. Started up in March/April from basically zero, building up my training volume. I was hoping to have some good training second half of summer/early fall. Had a six week set back in June (pulled hamstring) due to too much fast running. Then was...

    Running.. ugghh

Speaking about cheap races, mec has their series. I think each store puts on about five races per season, they usually have a 5/10/something longer. Couple guys at work are thinking of doing this one. You can't really go wrong for $15. I wish I found out about this sooner. Hopefully they'll...

IT/software/programming work standards, is this really normal?

I would say that article greatly exaggerates. Like with any profession there are good and bad companies to work for. Also like with any job, when there are deadlines there's more pressure, but if you don't dick around at the start of the project and get your **** done, there's less or no...

    Windows 8 anyone?

We already had a term for that: distributed. IT (probably IT maketing, not engineers) loves to invent new names for old things just to make sure that you are completely confused at all times and buy the newest piece of **** coming down the pipe.

    Lance Armstrong Doping

Pretty sure that in competition testing like you describe (pee in the cup after the event), is pretty easy to beat. Just stop taking x days/weeks/etc before the event. Like most sports to be good you need to stay injury free so you can train consistently. That's where steroids/hgh are most...

    Lance Armstrong Doping

What sport? what kind of testing is done? Unfortunately the current attitude towards PEDs doesn't appear to require large financial gains. This is indicated by the recent busts in AMATEUR cycling for example, so I really doubt your sport is immune.

    Lance Armstrong Doping

I thought this was kosher because of this: source: http://www.slowtwitch.com/Features/Armstrong_s_Coda_Through_a_Legal_Prism_3016.html As far as I know, all the cyclists that admitted to doping through their testimony against lance did receive sanctions (although I think they were shorted than...

    Lance Armstrong Doping

I think that's where you are wrong. It is very unlikely that we will ever be able to detect all doping, but I don't think we have to. We just have to change the attitude of the athletes/managers so that doping is unacceptable. Just like in Lance's case, there were people who knew he was doping...

    Lance Armstrong Doping

Can you elaborate on this. From what I read the USADA went by the book to make sure there's not wiggle room for any appeals, etc. Yea, that's sad. That's why it bothers me when people say, everyone is doing it so it's ok.

    Lance Armstrong Doping

Call me a cynic, but I think for companies like Nike it comes down to a simple calculation: will this person's name being associated with our brand make us money? If yes, they'll sponsor them, if no they don't. I guess Lance just shifted into the 'no' pile.

    Lance Armstrong Doping

I found these to be quite eye opening as to the effects of PEDs http://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-adventure/dropping-in/I-Couldn-t-Be-More-Positive.html?page=all http://www.outsideonline.com/fitness/Drug-Test.html?page=all

    Lance Armstrong Doping

Come on, that's bs. If he doped to get any of his wins (which at this point there is no doubt anymore) he didn't deserve any of them. People will say, oh but he trained so hard, etc, blah blah. Well if you understand anything about PEDs used by cyclists you'll know that it's much easier to...

    Lance Armstrong Doping

I though it all stemmed from the federal investigation for fraud (since the team was sponsored by the us government), in which several of armstrong's teammates where subpenaed to give testimony under oath to the federal grand jury. It's one thing to lie to the doping court, but lying to federal...
