You maybe right. OP - Check your spark plugs specifically inside the cap. Most times the little copper ring can get damaged causing a misfire in one cylinder. Also make sure your idle is set correctly. Sounds like it is set to low causing it to run rough and cause difficult starting when...

I've ridden River Rd. a couple of times. Great road but there's plenty of gravel in corners and suspiciously, on the roadway in front of some driveways. I have heard that some residents (can't confirm) like to sweep the gravel onto the road to curb motorcyclists.

I was there last Friday and there are very few helmets left. Mostly in odd ball sizes.
