I think majority of the people have said to get some driving experience. When I first started driving around 10 years ago, I got t-boned by a van that ran a stop sign (and then fled the scene). That taught me a valuable lesson that driving on the roads isn't just about not making any mistakes...
Examinations and getting your license whether its driving/riding/truck is a joke now every since MTO was privatized. I have read a couple of reports of tests not being conducted properly for truck drivers and it scares me that I have to share road with these guys...

I would really use that money to get a cheap car and get some driving experience. I really believe you need to be able to read the traffic/drivers in order to ride safely.

and insurance all depends on what bike you want. I also recommend RTI course but all of them are pretty much the same.

I have seen a lot of people riding in sub zero weathers lately, I tried it the other day and my hands froze! It looks quite sunny out today so I am really considering taking the bike out ..might try the latex method on the hands.
