How is it on long haul comfort?

Hadn't really considered new but I will look into most 09s I have seen are in the 7-8000 range, where as a 2012 would run me about 10 or so wouldn't it? I think my ideal age is 2006-2008.

Any particular reason or just better seating position and more usable power band?

I was quoted about the same with SF for the same year range and model. TD wanted over double that. Its your first year on the road, it will be expensive, bite the bullet, keep it upright, and gain the experience.

Motocross bike if you want to hit the best trails. While I have no experience with dual sports I don't know how well they hold up on rocky/rutty terrain. But if you're just thinking dirt paths a dual sport would probably be fine

Suction cup mount has been great on my car on all surfaces (plastic, glass, metal) just make sure the surface is uniform ( can be slightly curved) and clean. I have adhesive mounts on my bike and helmets and they also work great. Only thing I would change is accessibility to the 3rd party mic...
