I have no problem with RIDE checks, maybe it isn't as big of a problem/concern in the city but up here seems like there are more than a few people who I have had suspicions about being intoxicated - mostly the older generations if I am honest, though I imagine there are younger drivers as well.
I am not a huge fan of the styling of the front-end of the gixxer, though I did look at one yesterday in person and was impressed with the rest of the bike.
Get ahold of the municipal Public Works department and talk to the Super. I don't know the area but they may have a sweeper in the Works Dept. and may have someone go out and do the road if you brought it up, if not they should be able to answer all your questions I would think.
I have a pair of these: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/14/67/900/18457/ITEM/Sidi-Blade-Riding-Shoes.aspx
But they aren't exactly work appropriate.
Not to hijack the thread or anything but does anyone know of a pair of steel toed motorcycle boots/shoes?
It is American based so I thought it would likely be a little different. I've developed my own ideas about what a year should be on average so I should be fine.
Unless the bike is at a price that it will be at the time you have your M2 and G don't bother buying it. A bike depreciating while riding is bad enough, a bike depreciating while in storage is foolish. If someone is selling a bike that cheap there is likely something very wrong with it.
I think everyone should be open to helpful advice, though, sadly many are not. Mention it to them next time, but don't be surprised or retaliate if they are not willing to accept advice gracefully.
Also in terms of price, is Kelley's BlueBook fairly close to the prices I should expect to pay (I assume it will be a little higher since it is spring time)? Or is it inaccurate for Canadian bikes (many of the bikes I have seen online differ wildly from the BB price, especially CBRs)?
Practicing on your own is great but nothing can beat a pair or 3 of experienced eyes watching and instructing you. I'm the kind of person who likes to learn everything on my own as well, and I started out on dirt learning most of the skills there, but the course instructors definitely had a few...
Well theres still 4-6 inches of snow on the ground in my front yard and my road isn't particularly snowless either, so unfortunately not for a couple weeks likely unless I get a good thaw soon. I've been itching for months now
As for carrying a small amount of gear, I assume it is recommended to go with a tank bag vs backpack to avoid the sloshing of weight around on your back (just from many cycling experiences I assume this)?
When I say long haul I mean 4-5 hours (went to school and have friends in London which is about 3.5-4.5 hrs away from my current location so likely the longest trip for me would be there.)
