While acoustically treating a room is certainly not cheap, it isn't the most expensive thing to do either--especially if you own. Putty-packs for the outlets, new drywall with the green-glue for absorbtion, and a big 'decorative' rug hung on a 'hot-zone' will do wonders for minimizing noise...

99% of the kijiji guys will allow you to sit shotgun the entire way there-and-back if you are afraid they'll ride off..

Lots of people on kijiji will do it.. but if it is indeed rare, you might want to consider a company with insurance. Or if possible, go ride it back home. If too uncomfortable, get a night at a hotel for less than $150, and still come out on top vs shipping with a company.
