Just got back from a ride on my 750 Shadow Spirit C2 after just getting it back on the road.
Neat how you don't forget certain skills like swimming and bike riding.
Looked at the registration and insurance certificate and the bike is actually a 2007 not a 2009 as I thought.
I'm 5' 9" and the...
Looked at a VFR1200F selling for $3000 more than the CB1100 but with liquid cooling and a shaft drive.
Sat in the seat of one and it feels like it would be a comfortable ride for the long haul.
The VFR1200F is an odd clash of sport/touring configuration bike but am hoping next year they come out...
The price of the retro CB1100 is almost the same as the modern "standard" equivalent the CB1000R in the $13K + change range.
They both have 6 speed gearboxes though I'd like to see a comparison of the ratios.
The CB1000R is liquid cooled and lighter and leaves the retro in the dust in EVERY...
Had a Honda CB 360 twin back in the early 70s (very similar to the bike pictured above) that weighed not a whole lot more than 360 pounds, put out an honest 34 hp and had a 6 speed gearbox.
No problem from North Bay to Toronto several times on a "thimble full" of gas.
I think it had more "guts"...
I dunno, this is the first decent summer we've had in 10 years where it hasn't rained on an almost daily basis from May to September.
That constant sun every day is causing a relapse of bike riding fever and bringing back memories of those blazing hot summers in the 70s when I was in my 20s and...
Great around city/town bike but a little "shy" for the freeways and the 400 series.
Can't beat em if you live in the suburbs and commute to the city core daily.
That's what's nice about forums.
You can kick ideas around and get the benefit of the experience of others and it doesn't cost any money.
Helps immensely when you walk into a bike shop better armed with information to make a good choice.
This is the first decent summer we've had in 10 years...
You can say that again.
I paid $1600 and change for my first new CB750 back in the early 70s.
It's close to $15K tax inc for the retro CB1100 now.
Almost 10x as much.
The cruisers are dogs.
I want an inline 4 cylinder bike for my next ride.
I'm taking a serious look at the CB1000R.
The 70s were great but those years are gone like my trim waistline & hair.
Sat on a CB1000R at the Milton dealership that was right beside the sign that warned against sitting on...
Was told by a knowledgeable bike buddy that if I wanted to spend $14K on a CB category bike I'd be much better off with a CB1000R.
Much more power, liquid cooled, lighter.
Trouble with the over 10:1 compression ratio high performance bikes is the requirement for expensive high test gas.
Things...
Does anybody own one of the new air/oil cooled Honda CB1100 motorcycles?
If so, what do you think of it?
It has an in line 4 cyclinder engine that puts out about 88 hp at lower RPM and has a 6 speed gear box.
It is a back to the future extrapolation of the old CB 750 bikes of the 70s...
The CB360 weighed 328 pounds, put out 34 hp @ 9000 rpm, had a 6 speed gear box.
My Shadow Spirit 750 C2 weighs 520 pounds and puts out only 9 hp more than the CB360.
It's a lamer but one of the most comfortable and easy handling bikes I've ever owned.
A rider I know tried the Kuryakyn Hypercharger on his bike and removed it.
He said the only real effect on motorcycle speed from installing the unit might be because it lightened his wallet considerably.
Being a fairly large man with long legs he kept banging his knee on it.
It's just a shiny...
Thanks for the info.
I'll ride the Shadow for the rest of the summer and look at the Honda ST1300 next spring.
Friend of mine has and ST1300 and the only comment he made was that it revs kinda high at highway sppeds and could do with an extra up-gear for smoothness and gas economy.
Had a CB 360...
I like the looks of the vtx 1800 on the internet.
I've owned bigger bikes in the past.
I shoulda researched the Shadow more before I bought it.
I thought being a 750 it would be an ashphalt smoker like my old CB Nighthawk.
Didn't realize a lot of the new age medium sized bikes are oversized...
The dealer wants $300 (3 shop hours) to install the Hypercharger and the unit costs about $300.
A friend and long time rider told me that if I want big touring bike performance I need to trade the Shadow in on a bigger bike. There are no shortcuts.
The modern day Shadow 750s with their engines...
I have a Honda Shadow Spirit 750 C2.
I'd like a little more power or a lot more if I can get it. :lmao:
Two questions:
a) Is the Kuryakyn Hypercharger worth installing on my Shadow to get more horsepower or is it essentially a noise making "eye candy only" gimmick?
b) What else needs to be done...
The new water cooled engines are less prone to hot spots in the rear cyclinder and should be good for even more mileage than the bikes with the old air/oil cooled engines.
Besides the new bikes are so choked up with emission junk that they aren't putting out anywhere near the hp of the old bikes...
Re: We know you ride, but do you Shoot?
What most northern Ontarians call "the bush".
The only crown land near where I live is the lawn around Queen's Park.
