There is no "New Frontier." We all tried riding in the winter when we first started. Some still do for economic reasons or they just plain enjoy it. You didn't get flamed for talking about snow - I believe it was your superhuman braking abilities that got most worked up.

Everyone is bobbing the **** out of these bikes. There are forums dedidcated to these bikes. Google is your friend. You can find them pretty cheap at $1500.
I used to wear one of those neoprene half-face ski-masks with the nosepiece cut off under my helmet - that offers oretty good protection without fogging the visor.
Have to check to be sure, but back in the day you were able to go 10 kms over.
Edit: A quick Google search informed me that yellow signs are advisory i.e. on an onramp to a highway a posted yellow sign of 50 is advisory, where the actual limit would be 80 unless otherwise posted by a white sign.
