    Canada Post - Huge losses

Initially, it would cost them millions upon millions of dollars. The superboxes are not cheap. They are installed by contractors. They need to get city approval for locations of the boxes. Then they need to buy a sh1t ton of delivery vehicles. Need to restructure all of the routes, which takes...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

It was more along the lines of: CP: You want to strike? Fine. Here you go (Proceeds to hand $8M bill to union boss). That’s for November benefits etc. There was no negotiation. It was a hard middle finger from CP to CUPW.

I mentioned it earlier in this thread… CUPW proposed Postal Banking to CP. CP flat out refused. CUPW pointed out “France made something like €3.6B ($5.041B Canadian) with postal banking last year (French Postal System Report - 2024 interim results) CP refused to even consider it despite the...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

Well, the letter carriers get “restructured” every 2-3 years on average. In the past 20 years, TWENTY-FIVE full time letter carrier positions have been erased in the Guelph depot alone. The routes are made longer and longer and longer each time. Basically, a route gets removed, pieces of it get...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

Not a bad idea… but you see, there’s a tidbit of information that seems to get glossed over or people are simply unaware of. The CP/CUPW collective bargaining agreement expired 3 years ago. CUPW offered to renew the old agreement because it was Covid times and nobody really knew anything about...

"Back brake only, you'll crash if you use your front brake!"

This is the way. My bike (KTM RC8r) has a heavy freaking clutch, even though it’s hydraulic. I don’t have an issue holding the lever in for 3-4 minutes at a time, even with shorty levers.

"Back brake only, you'll crash if you use your front brake!"

My last trip to the Dragon Pre-Covid had exactly the same thing. A couple days before we arrived, a cruiser rider who switched to a ZX14 had an interview with God because of the rear brake fixation. From what the trooper told me, guy was on his first week of the ZX14. His buddies said he...

"Back brake only, you'll crash if you use your front brake!"

Because you have just taken away pretty every evasive maneuver you can make when stopped. Someone coming up behind you too busy texting to see you? Well, now you can’t move unless you jump off your bike to get away. Plain and simple.

OK, out of curiousity, how many delivery employees does UPS have compared to CP? We have 55,000 letter carriers / clerks. For example, 55K vs 20K (pure speculative number). You can pay/double comp the wages etc of the 20K and still be less than the 50K. That could easily explain the total wage...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

I realize this. From my understanding of GreyGhost's message, it was 72K employees at Canada Post. My logic says, 72K - 55K (CUPW) = 17K management.

    Canada Post - Huge losses

Well, there’s only 55,000 unionized employees in CUPW. IF your number of 72,000 is correct, that means that there are 17,000 management positions. 17,000 Management for 55,000 regular CUPW employees. That’s an absolutely absurd ratio!

From what I understand, it will get sent to customs for review and then get sent to a customs warehouse for CP pick up when the strike is over.

How is that any different from the bailouts for GM, Ford etc?

    Canada Post - Huge losses

Well, this may be surprising to you. UPS vs CP benefits are very, very similar. The only thing I am unclear on with that are pensions. At 4 years, I am making $26 (that's including the extra $1 for being a Relief Letter Carrier (I fill in routes where people are sick, have appointments etc etc...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

Your points are somewhat valid, but not completely.... 1) Rate of pay is unsustainable: I make $26/hour. Walking 25-34km a day. At that rate of pay, there's zero chance I could ever own a home anywhere in southern Ontario, except maybe Chatham-Kent. Considering the amount of wear and tear on our...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

Actually, YOU DON'T PAY FOR IT. CP is Government Owned and is considered a Crown Corporation, but at the same point in time is also private. CP is different from proper government job (think Canada Revenue, Passport Offices etc etc). The taxpayers of Canada do not subsidize CP.

Maybe they should stop giving all of the management staff quarterly bonuses then. The CEO makes $600K per year, and had a $400K bonus last year. I don't know of any other corporation that feeds management big fat bonuses when the company is hemorrhaging cash.

    Canada Post - Huge losses

They were literally giving the volunteers 7 routes to do in 5 hours. No wonder why they weren't getting done in a single day. We had 4-5 people delivering on Weds / Thurs, and 1 today (Friday) - maybe 2. several of the volunteers noticed other CP vans in their area, so it's highly doubtful that...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

Actually, there are VERY few depots that have any electric vehicles at all. My depot just received about 5 of the new right hand drive trucks that are build on the F250 platform. Guessing each one is $90-100K a piece with all the equipment and modifications. CP has purchased over 1000 (from...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

The union asked for volunteers to deliver the government cheques. Unfortunately, those volunteers will be working without any form of protection. The depot supervisors waited about 45 minutes after the volunteers departed - they piled into several vans and went out to do “safety inspections” on...
