Ah, thanks for clarifying! I stopped training not long after this photo. About a year and a half ago I walked back into the exact same Dojo and told them I came back to finish what I'd started. The instructor on the right is now the head instructor for the school.

Either way, as mentioned, cops and emergency personnel are exempt from the cell phone law. Not that looking down and texting would be safe if that cop WERE in traffic.
This. Utilize the colder nights to open up your windows and get as much fresh air as you can. It's particularly good for me because I'm close to the lake. If you have giant bedroom windows that get afternoon sun, make sure you close the blinds or utilize heavy drapes during the day.
I know it's not the advice you want to follow, but I can't think of anything more stress-less than taking the subway. Try it for at least one day and compare it vs driving downtown. I guarantee you'll prefer public transit in this scenario.
