Saul Ste. Marie Trip, Advice Please

I made this exact trip this past June. An EXCELLENT ride. I want to do it again. A few points... 1) Once up there... watch out for animals. Had a bear cross the highway directly in front of us 2) you will go for up to 20 kms without seeing a car or a building at some points on the Wawa/Chapleau...

If you join Motrek and Anik for the Pennsylvania trip on Friday, August 27th

Based on all those rules, especially the ride far apart, and don't help anyone out of they crash or break down, the only reason I see for riding "together" is to get someone else to share your motel costs.

Hell just froze. Heading to Harley-Davidson dealership tonight.

I love how some people think that THEIR criteria is what everyone else should base their motorcycle purchase on. As I said in my previous post, to each his/her own. I've ridden different types/styles of bikes over the years, and as my needs and criteria change, so have the bikes I have owned...

Hell just froze. Heading to Harley-Davidson dealership tonight.

I disagree. If you buy the bike, put in a season on it THEN decide on any mods. I went from sport bikes to a Dyna back in 2003. Never felt it needed more power, and even after riding the Dragon in two successive years never felt the need for a fork brace. You may or may not feel a need for those...

    Weekend Trip Ideas?

I plan on two consecutive days at York this coming week. Don't know which days yet though. I'd like to get an additional whack (8) lessons/flights in as I am then tied up till mid August. That's all I've been thinking about since Tuesday's intros..

So I'm in the garage workin' on bikes........

If I am on my bike and see a rider at the side of the road, I slow down a bit, beep my horn to get their attention, and alternately give a thumbs up & thumbs down a few times. If they are OK they reply with a thumbs up. If they are in trouble they give a thumbs down and I stop.

    Can someone explain this insanity?

You still missed the point. You obviously have a hardon against anyone who rides a Harley. I won't waste any more time. It is your choice to profile. You are the first person who I will diagnose with Harleyriderphobia....

    Can someone explain this insanity?

You missed my point. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. I'll re-quote the key part.. Your post implied an assumption about group riders, and if they were on Harleys what they would look like. The key part of my reply was "Not all Harley riders are fat, old, wear vests and chaps."

What do you remember? I'm feeling nostalgic today

You guys are all pups. I remember my dad taking me to the house next door to see a new device and it was the only one in town. It was called a television, and where we lived the owner could only get one station, and the picture was all snowy. I remember my mother telling me there was a new...

    Can someone explain this insanity?

No so fast hotdog... I've seen lots of groups with people of your ilk riding in similar fashion. Not all Harley riders are fat, old, wear vests and chaps. Just like not all sport bike riders are young, skinny and wear pretend racing leathers.

    Close call in Muskoka

Had a black bear lumber across the highway in front of us (2 bikes) last Tuesday east of Wawa. He behaved himself, as did we. :-)

Northern Ontario loop in Mid July including N Superior and some Ottawa Valley 533

101 from Wawa to Chapleau is excellent. Great road surface and the scenery is a delight. You will go for miles without seeing another vehicle. We then took 129 from Chapleau down to Iron Bridge so I cannot comment on 101 east of Chapleau. It is the ONLY highway of any sort east of Chapleau so I...

Northern Ontario loop in Mid July including N Superior and some Ottawa Valley 533

Once you have passed Chapleau heading east you won't really have much chance to revise and head south till you hit 144. You can save some time and miles by taking 69 straight down and avoiding your Muskoka parts if the weather gets nasty. This past Wednesday we rode in 8 degree temps and rain...

Northern Ontario loop in Mid July including N Superior and some Ottawa Valley 533

You're stretching it if you think you can do it in 3-4 days. Last week I did a Toronto to Sault Ste Marie (one day) then up to Wawa and over to Chapleau then down to Blind River (one day) then back to Toronto the final day. And that was rushing it. Unless you are looking to ride at high speed...

    Joe Rocket Rocks

@baggsy: I only use the liners when it is going to rain. Or if it is really cold out the liners help keep me warm. @dmartins: I agree that it takes a bit to put the liners in if you have to install them once riding, but I don't mind that considering the end result.

    Joe Rocket Rocks

Have had my Joe Rocket Alter Ego jacket and pants for four years now, and today had to ride 8 hours in 8 C temps and constant rain from Blind River to Toronto. Arrived totally dry thanks to the rain liners these items come with. Biggest workout I have given them yet, and they came through with...
