    Pics of California Tour

Definitely worthwhile. And the San Diego HD dealer's rental rates are the best I have ever come across.. including insurance. Most others had a $2,000 deductible.

    Pics of California Tour

OK... here are a few... I shot about 300 but these will give a taste. Used my Canon XTi 18 MP camera and took only one lens, a Tamron 18-270. These pics have been scaled down significantly. First morning in San diego before picking up the bikes. The morning moon greeted us. Two rental 2013 HD...

    California Tour to Begin

Am back! A fantastic 7 days of riding. I will post pics when I get a chance but in the meantime... Days were not long as my ridding buddy is recently off a nasty surgery and could only handle 4 hrs/day max. (we are both 65) This meant for a relaxed pace and some sight seeing at some overnight...

    California Tour to Begin

Flying to San Diego on Wednesday this week with touring buddy Jeff. Renting a couple of bikes and hitting the roads for a week. No set routes, although aiming for coastal highway north of LA and some southern valley riding. Will depend on the temps and possibility of snow at some of the higher...

    Motorcycle Cannonball

The Motorcycle Cannonball is a ride for pre 1930 motorcycles from New York to San Francisco over 17 days. The Saturday night stopover was in Sandusky Ohio so a buddy and I rode down from Toronto and stayed at the same motel to see the bikes and talk to the riders. The oldest bike was built in...

    Toronto to Florida in June

Hey Jon... You have set a pretty leisurely pace for your first and last days. Nice way to start and finish. You should be OK with the remaining days. Have always stayed in average type motels on my June trips with no problems, but have always been with one other rider. I'd use some kind of...

Do bikes have to wait in the car line while crossing the US border?

Hi Jon.. long time no chat.. didn't know you were on here. They are all correct.. no special bike lines. So you are back in Toronto these days?? Thom

Sat Phones, Personal Locators...etc feedback needed

Cell phone batteries waste out quickly when not in a digital area. If in an analog area or no signal at all, they expire real fast. Best to turn them off then only turn on when needed.

    Got Touring Plans for 2012?

A friend and I are talking about a Europe ride in September. Edelweiss is one of the companies we are considering.. another friend has used them and speaks highly of them.

    Rambling Threads

To add to the above... I always take a thin balaclava to wear under whatever helmet I am using if it gets real cold. Keeps the chin from freezing. Make sure you have a good set of Gortex gloves with gauntlets for the rain.. Ibuprofen for the back for long hauls if your back tends to get sore A...

    WTF Was That?

I have been on one large group ride, and that was about 7 years ago. Never again. My limit is now a total of four bikes, preferably three.

Dog killed a skunk over night... bad smell

Best solution is a combination of water, baking soda and hydrogen peroxide... find the relative amounts on the net. Works great and way cheaper than the vet stuff. The backyard smell will likely go away in a day or so. Any time I see and smell a dead skunk on the highway the smell is usually...

    Another retirement question

nobbie48 pretty well says it all. The key is that most people want life after retirement to be pretty much the same as life before retirement. That is why it is important to have zero debt, preferably WELL before retirement. Hopefully your folks have decent pensions or a self funded plan via...

Any cheap way to rubberize something?

If the holder is not visible when the guitar is hanging on it, then I would do on eof the following.. both are real simple and real cheap. 1) stick on some velcro (the soft pieces, not the hard) where the guitar will come in contact with the mount or 2) stick on some felt pads on the contact...
