It can be done with the conversion kit "snow explorer" I believe. Without the kit, as soon as your rear lifts and spins, the ride is over. Snow above the front axle will cause issues too in my experience. Ice riding is as easy as drilling screws into a set of knobbies, but wear extra armour...

Have you tried a marine sail repair shop? They are experts with tougher materials, or shoe repair?

My Honda XR400R has the balls removed to fit behind Ascerbis hand guards. I figure I'm in more danger of being impaled by a tree than my levers in that scenario.
