I've demoed all 3 in the past.
The 883 is nice enough, but somewhat forgettable ride (seriously I don't remember it). You buy that bike for the looks or the name, but it's really not an exciting machine. The 1200s seem better overall. The Victory stuff was a disappointment. The engine is...
I tried the Sherco 300 enduro they had at the Scorra Fun Day last year. Loved it. Engine was smooth as ice and had tons of power. If I wasn't so worried about parts availability, I'd consider one.
I have a 1200, but I've ridden a 1500 and 1800 and an older connie and they're all great bikes in their own way.
If you want comfort, the 1500 wing followed by the 1200 wing feels the best for me. The 1800 is is comfortable, but not quite in the same plush way. The connies felt more like...
Never. Absolutely never :) I watched a video of the ODSC guys pulling a big GS out of a hole 1/2 as bad as that one on the Bethany ride this spring. Do not want.
Yeah... when you say Enduro, Dual Sport and ADV bike you're going to get so many different opinions. To me a dual sport is something that's actually off-road capable and tuned for at least 50/50 use. That would include bikes as big as the KLR 650 and the DR650, but not the V-Strom or F800GS.
3 years in, and I'm wondering if I even need/care about street bikes. The dual sport I have does everything I want and does it cheaply.

The training at CMTS (http://www.cmts.org/) is also top notch, if I had the money I'd take their enduro training course today.
If you're riding north, and have a OFTR membership, this will help: http://oftr.ca/files/81/MISC/SCORRA_OFTR_ApprovedForests2012.pdf
If you're looking for staging (parking/unloading areas)...
The first oil change is pretty important, but you can do that yourself. There's tiny metal shavings floating around in your oil right now from the engine break-in. It's a good idea to get them out ;) Also, check all the bolts that are visible to make sure they're tight.
This doesn't mean you...
I demoed the CB500F a few months ago in Sudbury, and it was awesome. I'm sure the X version is just as good, but I'd be leery about doing real dual sport stuff with it. The exhaust routing and the cast wheels are a good sign it was not meant to go over rocks and stumps. If you want that, the...
Some people like the idea of the liquid cooled engine on the KLR over the DR. Realistically, I've been off road with both and the DR is fine. The KLR is still a bit better on the highway though.
I really miss my KLR :(
