Upgrade to a BMW F800R as my second motorcycle

well, i said "lap times", not "light to light". And not really joking. Same as i don't really need dual 6 piston calipers - dual 4 piston do quite nicely. Yep. But as someone else said - stock suspension adjustments are *also* in a range made for the largest demographic. *losing. Granted...

    DriveTest Centre - WFT?

    I believe that's called the "m2 exit".

    DriveTest Centre - WFT?

So you're advocating simplifying an already simple test, allowing less skilled riders to get on the road? That doesn't seem to make much sense. ;) And i disagree that slalom at 20 or 40 would show more skill than at slow speed. Much easier to keep the bike upright at those speeds. It's just...

    407 Confusion

They *do* charge you a transponder fee though, even though they don't give you one.

    kms per litre

The asphalt is *much* farther away in a plane in a corner than on a bike. :D

    DriveTest Centre - WFT?

Oh, okay, that makes a bit of sense. Uhm. So... is it timed? I mean... Is there any reason you couldn't just do it one foot on rear brake and feathering clutch with engine up at high idle for stability? Because it kind of indicates that it's set up to test that very necessary skill.

    kms per litre

If you tack on "as my only vehicle", sure. If you have to have a car, and the m/c is an alternate, the math doesn't work out because of ins/maint/etc. It's one of the justifications you can use to the better half if they're iffy on it though. ;)

    DriveTest Centre - WFT?

Why would it be more difficult? The only reason i can think of is throttle control being an issue with a high strung bike - but it's not *that* big of a deal.

    Recommendations on a naked bike

to clarify, rev quickly = rev happy for me. the f800 motor, with it's balance shaft, spins up silly fast. and the 250r revs even higher still... which doesn't mean anything as a direct comparison. I've ridden both the 650r and the f800r - and the 800 leaves the 650r easily behind in terms of...

    Sharing a parking spot

Two words: 'Wasaga Beach'. Hell yes. As long as you're not blocking them in, whatever.

    Oily tire

Ergh. You should put a "it depends" in that poll. Tires, as a rule, aren't permeable, so it will *eventually* be okay. Until that time (which you don't know when that is) you're going to have issues. one thing you can do is go over it with citrus engine degreaser, rinse, repeat, as long as...

We WERE all set to start the motorcycle lifestyle...

I think the best advice in the entire thread was "take the course, *with* your wife, then decide". Nothing like a little bit of experience (albeit in the confines of a closed lot) to give some perspective. And if you don't get the "bug", then you're out a few hundred dollars, no harm no foul.

There are multiple threads on this. Start bike, get on, ride is the short version.

imho, the 650r is not... peppy? it just doesn't have the rev happiness of other bikes i've tried. and the ergo is awful (for me anyway) - but ymmv.

Upgrade to a BMW F800R as my second motorcycle

i really don't get this "radial brake" thing. radial brakes follow inverted forks - it's not like you can have radial brakes with regular forks, so what's the point in talking about them? they offer no performance improvement, that's all in the forks. which, by the way - inverted forks...

    Bike Warm up

more likely running on enrichment too long/not long enough. or it's just not working. carbs are great - when running right. just being pedantic, but you're not hearing valves, you're hearing hydro lifters. and if they're clicking until oil pressure comes up, they're tired and leaking down when...

Upgrade to a BMW F800R as my second motorcycle

Love mine. With a few retouches, it's a fantastic looking bike. BTW, the swingarm's aluminum, not steel. Oil changes are a ten minute non-ordeal (although you have to reset the annoying "service now" marker somehow, or ignore it). It *is* a bit dippy on the front end, but nothing crazy. in...
