Heading to the Dragon down the Blue Ridge Parkway second week of July .

When I rolled in it was late October and raining on and off, $15 to set up my tent for the night or IIRC $25 for the bunk house. I paid the extra $10 and stayed dry lol. IMHO if your going down with a group and planning far enough ahead renting out a Vacation home or cabin is a great way to...

Heading to the Dragon down the Blue Ridge Parkway second week of July .

When I was there it was 3 of...

Heading to the Dragon down the Blue Ridge Parkway second week of July .

I stayed at Fontana Village back in 05 lol, it was mid renovation so my review would be way out of date lol. Since 06 or 07 we've been renting all 3 houses at the tree tops http://www.thetreetops.com/ . Definitely something to consider when going down as a group. This year my accommodations are...

I've taken US219 down and back the last few years. Last year was the first time I actually got on the road when I planned to, met up with another rider at Timmies at the entrance to 219 at 7am or so and road it all the way down and arrived in Rich creek VA while it was still light out lol...

    The Ballad of the GAp

I'm going back down there again in July, I can't wait. Great video, not what I was expecting but it reminded me what made all the trips down there so much fun. It's not just the Gap, it's the friends and good times that were had on the way down, there and the way back.

    Travel Medical Insurance and Paranoia

We had a rider go down hard on the last day of a rally a few years back in Deals Gap. He augured his bike in on the dragon and had among other things 2 compound fractures in his legs. It was several weeks and over $250,000 in medical bills by the time he got back to Canada. Luckily he had...

    Riding local = safer

Get your buddy near a computer and show him some of the touring threads, or video's from Deals Gap, the BRP etc etc etc. There's so many great places to go on two wheels that staying "local" seems so very wrong.

Deals Gap - Fall Colours and Twisties in October

I was down there mid October in 2011 at it was downright chilly at night, of course not thinking I took my usual summer camping gear including a light sleeping bag lol. During the Day if the sun was out it was awesome though. I don't know if you know where Meadows of Dan is on the BRP, it's...

Tank bag vs. Backpack for commuting to work

Tankbag or tailbag, backpack as a last resort. I've got a small bilt tailbag, picked it up on sale 2 years ago. http://www.cyclegear.com/CycleGear/Accessories/Luggage/Tail-Bags/brand/BiLT/Tail-Bag/p/36656_60116 works great for odds and ends, raingear, camera. And the older 2 pc Joe rocket...

What Parts of Canada are Worth Touring on a Motorcycle?

I never had a bike when I was out in BC on Vancouver Island but there were some nice roads, The Kelowna area on the mainland would be fantastic on a bike with all those glacier valleys and lakes.

Scenic route to Niagara on the Lake

Once you hit Hamilton, take Centennial parkway south until you hit ridge road and take that all the way to Beamsville. Then either take old highway 8 or RR69 into St Catharines, if you take 69 you can run Effingham down and back before heading to NOTL.

If you had 9 Days of Vacation, Where Would you Ride to? Starting location: Toronto

I go down to Deals Gap every year for the Katriders rally, 2 days riding down leaving Friday. Sunday to Friday ride the area and wander around. Saturday and Sunday ride home. I've slabbed it down and 16 hours of interstate sucks ***, now I take the scenic route down and enjoy myself. As for the...

Got back from Tail of the Dragon

Same here, but as someone who's been going down there for years. Having someone in the group from Canada trailering down is a huge bonus "just in case" your not able to ride home.

    Claiming motorcycle gear

I had no receipts for my gear when I crashed my bike and Kingsway wouldn't accept online links. So I went to Sturgess Cycle in Hamilton and explained the situation. I had bought my boots there, but everything else was ebay, bike show and a Bike shop that closed the year before. They gave me a...

Very few riding partners in the GTA!!

Try to add a day or two to your trip down to the dragon, You can ride down in one day if you slab it (Interstate highways) but IMHO it's much more enjoyable to take a more curvy route down.

Got back from Tail of the Dragon

I rode down with a guy from Ottawa, we met a few miles down US 219 south of Buffalo at 7am. We rode all the way down US219 Friday and stayed near Rich Creek VA overnight. Then the second day we wanted to make time and did some interstate to arrive mid day in Robinsville. We went down for the...
