    No!!! Transmission problems!!!

A labour of love. ;) Biggest issue was removing the remains of a broken bolt. I'm no mechanic but, while asking for advise I was told several times that the most common problem with restorations is removing broken bolts, the second is finding parts. I was lucky I didn't have to go deep in the...

    Insurance w/o safety courses

I can only speak for my own situation; I won't live long enough to recoup the money but, who knows, my experience with insurance has changed a lot, especially related to flying. :( For me, it wasn't about the money, it was about peace of mind. I was self taught ( I grew up in the country ) and...

    Insurance w/o safety courses

My insurance gave me a refund after I had taken the course... ymmv. As a long time rider returning from a hiatus (children/minivan) I was surprised to re-learn slow-speed maneuvering. The Instructors were great, gave great feedback and were great at managing the disparate skill levels of the...

Good days work yesterday; - Mufflers on (including repaired header bolt, worked well) - Cables and pipes routed and connected - Wiring almost complete (2 wires unconnected, need to be traced?) - battery box back in, working on 'dressing' parts. Time to pick up oil, filters etc. I plan to do a...

    No!!! Transmission problems!!!

Ah ... I used vice grips on the shank, there was no head left after it snapped off when i was removing the headers. I'm not that much of a hack to use vice grips on a bolt with a good head on it. Thanks anyway.

    No!!! Transmission problems!!!

Sorry, I don't understand. It wasn't a 4 sided bolt, and it snapped it off when I was trying to undo the headers with a regular socket/ratchet setup, no damage to the head of the bolt, it broke on the shank. Softer metal than I expected. :( Maybe I missed something, admittedly I'm a hack...

    No!!! Transmission problems!!!

Ok, so I managed to get the mounting bolts back in, tougher than I thought, especially trying not to pinch the many wires for sensors etc. Coils back in and re-wired (green tape is labels, I'll remove when I know she runs. ;) ... and a lot more wiring ahead; but first, carbs to be cleaned...

Motorcycle Rejuvention! Help me bring it back to life!

Good long term project, get another bike if you want to ride soon. As has already been said, check for bikes that have been in accidents for parts, check the cycle salvage sites etc. Frequent the builder/restoration forums, I found a WEALTH of information on the GS forum for restoring my '83...

... Finally had some time to work on her last night. The engines in the frame (just sitting on the frame for now). It doesn't look like it but, it's a ridiculously tight fit, took the better part of the evening (and some skin from buddy's knuckles).
