Not River Road, CR 20 is the next major road north of River Road. GWS riders.

Some 3-5 hour ride recommendation From Brampton for a new rider and his Father

One could spend a day heading up to Wasaga. Hockley Valley Road is fine. But there are a heck of a lot nicer roads just north of that. Almost every East/West Road is paved and gorgeous, either following valleys or across the tops of ridges or both. I usually just zig/zag back and forth between...

    Orangeville Area. Mechanic Needed

These days, I get my FZ1 serviced at Larry's Small Engines. On the west side of Hwy 10, north of Hockley Valley Rd (I think they are at the 10th Sideroad, but I could be wrong). :)

Camping with the bike, what do you bring and other tips?

I could go 2 up camping, if my luggage had flat tops. Mine are all rounded and can't hold anything strapped to the top of them. When I camp by myself, my tent and chair take out the back seat.

Camping with the bike, what do you bring and other tips?

I had a similar problem with the thermorests and sleeping bags. Then I went camping the first weekend in April, a couple of years ago, and did an experiment. I have light-weight thermorests but they are narrow and my sleeping bag would slide off in the night. Also, although I have barrel...

    right turn vs left turn

I've thought this problem too, since I also favour left. I knew about the intersection preferences, what with driving on the right/correct side of the road. But out here in the backwoods, I have also realized that from the right lane almost all right hand curves, in the country are blind...

Comfotable bike for a passenger that's not a full touring bike...

Of the bikes that you listed. The only one that I would have doubts about is the Ninja. I have a 1st Gen FZ1 - a 2003. It is a sport touring bike. Very similar in ergonomics to the Bandit 1250. I put a GIVI top case on, to act as a backrest and I have done many 2 up trips with this bike. Most of...

    CAM-AM Roadster Demo Tour

The computer won't let the bike flip, so there is no need to lean, unless it helps override the computer's tendency in the corners to engine brake. Now, I chased a Spyder, through some back roads in Gaspe, with my fully loaded Ural, a couple of years ago. I couldn't come close to matching his...

Anybody know if there is a Ural demo day anywhere in Ontario this summer?

My friends called my Ural, the Carnival Ride. I used to take people for rides around the parking log on Monday Night Ice Cream meets, at La Paloma. I could sometimes wheelie the front tire and sometimes, if the passenger was small enough, I could fly the sidecar in the air. I only ever let a...

    Brampton Area - Spots?

If you've been to Hockley Valley Rd on the paved road, just try almost any North or South road going up out of the valley. Only one is paved and straight (3rd Line heading south to Hockley Valley Resort). Most of the other roads involve gravel and some kind of switchback. The further north you...

Anyone interested in a ride through the Maritimes this summer 2012?

Way too early to start planning anything for my summer yet. Maybe in late May. Right now, I have too many variables to doing a trip.

    Brampton Area - Spots?

Get a small dual sport. Lots of roads, paths - goat and otherwise, just a bit north of you.

Hamilton to Sturgis - Stumped in route planning :-(

Small world. I went from the venerable ZR7s to the FZ1. The only difference, I had a little affair with a Ural sidecar in between them. :D

March 2012: What condition are the northern roads?

Not quite all. River Road, North of 89, is a quite a mess. Most of the other well travelled, paved roads, are okay, with just odd patch here or there.

    Orangeville area riders

Missed this thread until today. If I am around, I am always available for a ride or three. I just found out this weekend, while in my car, that River Road is not very passable. Lots and lots of looses sand. The rest of the busy east-west roads seem okay.

Hamilton to Sturgis - Stumped in route planning :-(

I did a quick trip to MS Streets and Trips. It is 2.5 days to get there, just doing the 401 and interstates all the way there. I drove across the country last summer. Unless you have lots of time, you are stuck with interstates at least to the other side of Chicago. If you can avoid it, don't...

Hamilton to Sturgis - Stumped in route planning :-(

Easy Peasy. Don't do the interstates and don't do 10 hour days. Just don't follow any posted speed limits. Twist the throttle open to full lock. Engage the throttle lock and hold on tight. :D

    Kids on the back?

Top case (with or without a backrest) for the win!!! I can't remember the last time that I worried about anyone falling off the back. My son has said that he has even fallen asleep back of my FZ1 before. As for sidecars, the law is exempted regarding sidecars. I've put a couple of pillows to...
