Welcome and at least you aren't arrogant and have realized that you need some practice. Even though you had to wait two years before buying your motorcycle, what you are going through is the main reason why buying a bike directly after your M1 exit makes the best sense as that allows you to...
OP, both are great bikes. R6 as been stated has a more aggressive riding position. If you can, test ride them both. Just sitting on it won't really give you a good measure of comfort. I personally like the higher seat height of the R6 as I'm over 6ft. At least you've narrowed it down, as...

Proficient Motorcycling is excellent. As recommended though this book is more useful once you've taken the MSF course and started riding. The book is packed with information and you'll need to read it slowly to digest everything. Also, pick up Keith Code's DVD "Twist of the Wrist". Enjoy...
Exercise some patience dude there is still a lot if salt on the road and with cold tires it could be a recipe for a disaster. I'd just wait for the course.

For those who say to carry a photocopy of the pink insurance slip you are wrong. If pulled over you MUST have the originals. Kind of makes sense why the insurance company issues you 2 copies.

Shark are good helmets and popular in Europe. Pannon Motorsports has been closed now for a out 1.5 years. A few stores in the GTA carry a few Shark helmets but not enough models in their inventory, so you may be out of luck if you need to try them on before you buy.

I saw that bike and thought it was a pretty decent deal for those looking for an older R6. I believe they were asking $4888 and it had about 13 000kms. I was at the show on Friday afternoon and it was pretty busy, today must have been a zoo.

If you are getting riding jeans don't get the knee protectors that slide into the kneee pockets as they will move around. Get knee guards that you wear under the jeans. A good brand of Jean is Sartso - they sell them at Rider's Choice. But wait for a sale. Also, don't be spending too much...
Based on the two options the RR is the better deal. However, we all know that the R6 is sexy and you'll be more satisfied with that in the end as that's where your heart is. From your profile, it's obvious you like pretty things and the R6 is pretty. My advice, buy neither one of these bikes...
^ what he said. I think the O.P. is pulling the panic alarm. I don't like to ride below 13C and this afternoon was really nice. Fall riding is fun, ride up north and enjoy the Fall colours. Even for the dude who doesn't like to be cold you've got at least 3 - 4 weeks left!
RIP, condolences to the rider's family and friends. Many on this site have done the Forks countless times without incident. Even though it is a technical rd. in some areas I don't think it's that difficult if you ease your speed. Not blaming anyone as I was not there, just sad :(
I live a stone throw from that intersection. It's a very dangerous one. A lot of serious accidents there recently. For those who live in Brampton or go through that intersection slow down while going through and do your safety checks. GWS rider, I hope he makes it.
RIP, condolences to family and friends. Very sad :(. I have been through that intersection many times on my bike. It appears it was a left hand turn collision. I think we have been writing RIP too often this riding season.
